The Kenney curriculum looks pretty- let's say, unhinged. I just had a good friend text me to say that she and her family would leave Alberta if this insane government gets reelected. Education is important. It's everything. Teach your children well.
One last thing: As a teacher, the proposed #abed curricula stress me out because I know there are no developmentally-appropriate teaching resources, because the learning outcomes are not developmentally appropriate. Teachers would waste hundreds of unpaid hours building them.
Many disabled kids in Alberta are no longer supported in class due to funding cuts. Today @AdrianaLaGrange released a curriculum “update” that is not developmentally appropriate for neurotypical kids, so will def leave ours even further behind. They deserve better. #ableg#abed
UCP: Quietly changes the online version of the curriculum even though we all saw it yesterday (& have screenshots)
Also UCP: Hey doctors, please trust us and sign this agreement as written *wink wink*

.@jkenney Why did PC & NDP governments bother with Inspiring Education consultations and engaging world curriculum experts when UCP brilliantly used Google and copied Wikipedia, the most reliable of sources, straight into our kids, program of studies. #abed#AbLeg#abpoli
When the KKK gets equal space alongside residential schools in a curriculum, there is a serious problem. I can't even begin to fathom the reasoning for that choice. My Jamaican colleague went silent when I showed him that. It hurts. #AbEd
The #abed curriculum debacle is distracting attention nicely from coal mining, the fight with doctors, the privatization of healthcare, and the general poor handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and vaccine rollout.
Alberta's newly proposed K-6 draft curriculum gets an "F". Not one mention of human rights, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
It is a curriculum of negation and erasure. Not a curriculum for the 21st Century and the world we live in.

“‘It’s like the people who wrote this have never met a child,’ said Peck, who focuses on social studies in education at the University of Alberta.” #ableg#abed
