Through the Liberals' Bill C-39, they're ramping up their attacks on workers' rights, including the right to strike. Whether it’s workers, Indigenous peoples or defenders of the environment, the Liberals say they consult only to totally ignore those worst impacted by their corporate agenda.
This government’s repeated attacks on the right to strike is exactly why I tabled my Bill C-247 to repeal Section 107 and uphold the Charter-protected right to strike and to collective bargaining. I and the @NDP stand with all workers exercising their rights to fight to get a fair deal at the bargaining table.
🚨Bill #C39 = legal right to walk off the job technically remains— it gives govt authority to quickly shut down high-profile airline strikes before they can exert “heavy economic pressure”.
Here is how MPs voted today to send it to committee:

2. Because air travel is vital to the economy, C-39 directly impacts airline crews: Under proposed changes to 🇨🇦 Labour Code, jobs minister can intervene if they feel a strike would cause “significant adverse national impact". This makes FAs prime targets for govt intervention.
🚨 In short, while the legal right to walk off the job technically remains, Bill C-39 gives the federal government broad authority to quickly shut down high-profile transit and airline strikes before they can exert heavy economic pressure. ✈️

4. Labor critics say when a union votes overwhelmingly to strike, employers have less incentive to compromise at the bargaining table. Companies may simply stall negotiations, banking on the government stepping in to halt the disruption. Aka Air Canada 2025! ✈️
3. Once minister triggers these powers = order workers back to work, extend current collective agreements, send dispute to binding interest arbitration = outside 3rd party or the govt could dictate terms of the FAs contract vs. letting a strike force a negotiated settlement. ✈️

🚨✈️Bill doesn’t ban strikes, it gives the federal govt powers to intervene, order workers back & impose binding arbitration in the name of "national interest". For federally regulated workers like flight attendants, this strips leverage out of collective bargaining. #cdnpoli

For the first time in 5 years, @United just introduced a new snack box.
And it’s now my favorite one. (Junk food galore!)
Called “Wishes,” it’s designed by Make-a-Wish kids from across the country.
United will donate $1 from each sale to MaW. Box costs $10. Free for 1Ks.
While it won’t be a hurricane by the time it reaches California this weekend, Rachel could still present hazards characteristic of a tropical cyclone, including heavy rain, strong winds, big waves and other impacts. https://t.co/CapWTFRgIC
