The wife of Alaafin is called Ayaba, not Olori, in the Oyo Empire. Ayaba means Empress. They have their own roles in the royal court and can appoint village chiefs. Historically, figures like Baale Ogbomosho and Oluwo of Iwo were under the leadership of Iya-kere, who is an Ayaba.
