@HisNutMeg Following Jack’s every beck and call. It’s hard when there are so few angels left, and I can’t bring myself to ask him to try and create more.
@HisNutMeg That vengeance—the way it grows and festers—is something Castiel has been all too familiar with in the past. For beings like himself and Meg, it can be difficult to simply think past, so his next resort is some kind of magical remedy.
Not that he’s found anything yet.
@HisNutMeg “I think humans have taken to calling that a support system,” he noted idly, lost in thought as he contemplated the notion, how such a thing had come to impact his existence so irreversibly. He never wanted to reverse it.
“I’ve had you to thank for most of the support I’ve >
@HisNutMeg “I didn’t make you a docile demon,” he reminded her, just as she reminded him (though he didn’t truly need reminding) of the life they’d created together. “You did that with your own choices. That’s the only way anything will stick, I think—when people decide.”
@HisNutMeg “If that’s the one good thing that I’ve been able to do,” he says, truly touched by her words and by the way her thorns seem to have retreated, “then I’ll be happy with my existence.”
@HisNutMeg A bit idly, he raised a hand to begin petting her hair as he lost himself in a sea of memories, both those forcibly repressed and those he’d carried all along.
Such misery he’d witnessed. And yet…
“Well, a few thousand years of brainwashing probably helped. But also…it >
@HisNutMeg He took a moment to ponder, his brow furrowed deeply in thought.
“Maybe that’s why He had to leave,” he mused. “Our instructions were to protect humans, but also to protect their free will. He wouldn’t infringe. But…maybe He couldn’t handle it, either.”
@HisNutMeg “You’re more sensitive to pain than most,” he explained softly, raising a hand to gently caress her cheek.
“Your existence was built around it for such a long time…it only makes sense that you can detect it more easily.”
@HisNutMeg He learned a long time ago not to argue the point on that—recently, he’s been learning to accept it, too.
An odd feeling, to be sure. And it’s always been hard for an ancient being to sublimate new feelings.
“I’m luckier,” he said instead.
@HisNutMeg “Just for you,” he said, moving his arm to accommodate her. He couldn’t just head out without bringing her back a bag of Skittles.
The look on her face alone is completely worth it.
