Woodcarver Miyamoto Teiji (宮本貞治) in Otsu is now a "Living National Treasure," one of 12 to be so designated by the Cultural Affairs Agency on July 21, 2023. Miyamoto is 69 & started woodcarving at age 20 in Kyoto. Later moved to Otsu. His technique is called fuku-uru (拭漆).
