#HurricaneIan made landfall today in western Florida. This AM, one of our Spotter buoys — which was airdropped into the Gulf of Mexico by a @usnrl P-3 aircraft on Monday — passed near Ian’s eye wall, recording critical observations that will help assess model predictions. (1/3)

Thanks to @usnrl Scientific Squadron VXS-1 for sharing footage from yesterday’s airdrop of our Spotter buoys over the Gulf of Mexico. The 7 Spotters were deployed from 1,000ft at 150mph in an array that will sample the different quadrants of #HurricaneIan. (1/2)

Today, a @USNRL P-3 aircraft airdropped 7 of our Spotter buoys into the Gulf of Mexico in #HurricaneIan's path. The buoys were deployed with other sensors as part of @thenopp Hurricane Coastal Impacts Project and will provide a real-time network to monitor Ian's approach. (1/2)
