When Wan asks "Are you tired?", what he's really thinking is "It's all my fault." When Third answers "I'm tired, but I'll protect you," what he's really thinking is "Don't say that."
MR FANBOY CHAPTER 9
#MrFanboyEP9
I know looking at things from Third's perspective, people probably empathize with him deeply. No one wants to be drowning in love one minute only to be broken up with the next—it is brutal, I get it!! It hurts so much.
People argue that when asking to be together, Third asked properly and respectfully, so why did Wan unilaterally make the decision to break up? Isn't that selfish? How could anyone think that way? Let me defend baby Wan for a moment here!
First of all, if Third was revelling in happiness only to suddenly be broken up with—falling straight from heaven into hell—then where did Wan know he stood right from the start? Perhaps from the very moment Wan came to Third, he was already in hell 😞😞. If he didn't love Third, if he were selfish, why didn't he just go home and break up with Third over a text or a call? Why did he choose to go meet Third in person, wanting to share all the little things that couples do? It's because Wan truly loves Third so much—no less than Third loves him. Knowing that you will inevitably have to leave the person you love is an agonizing pain. Even in the happiest moments, Wan would hesitate, ache with regret and sorrow; he could never enjoy wholehearted, untainted happiness like Third, who was completely unaware. So what I mean is, Wan hurts just as much as Third 🥹.
Secondly, people say Wan was selfish for abruptly breaking things off unilaterally? No!! He is actually the one who thought of himself the least. Wan worries about his parents, his little sister, and Third, but he never spares a single thought for himself 😭. I believe that in the moment Wan asked Third, "Are you tired?", he hesitated. He felt regretful and couldn't bear to let go of this relationship. But when Third answered "Tired," it was like a switch shutting down whatever hesitation he had left. I know Third didn't mean to complain; he was simply speaking his truth. Being straightforward is in Third's nature, and Wan loves that honesty, so when Third was honest, Wan likely felt that he was genuinely the root of the problem. Every time Wan looks at Third, his eyes are brimming with love; he didn't want things to turn out this way either 😭. People say doing that right after being intimate is cruel to Third, but they forget that Wan carries the exact same burden—in fact, he had to bear the crushing weight of knowing that once their night together ended, he would have to leave the person he loves. Neither of them hurts any less than the other 😭.
It is precisely knowing how deeply they cherish and love each other that makes this breakup hit me so hard emotionally. From the handholding, the kisses on the hair, and Third’s gaze, to Wan’s increasingly obvious initiative—it's utterly killing me. So to me, neither of them is selfish. Both of them are just people who care about others far more than they care about themselves.
