I just remembered this Japanese commercial for DBZ: Kakarot and how perfectly it reflects how much Toriyama's work really affected so many people's lives.
May he forever rest in peace.
Imagine creating a work so powerful that it lasts at LEAST four decades and had cultural impact WORLD WIDE in a multitude of languages and nations.
Very very few HUMAN BEINGS ever achieve something like this.
ONE PIECE creator Eiichiro Oda reacts to Toriyama's passing.
"It is too early.
The hole is too big. Sadness washes over me when I think that I will never see him again.
I have admired him so much since I was a child. I remember the day he called me by name for the first time, the day you used the word "friend" for me and Kishimoto, I remember being overjoyed with Kishimoto on the way back home. I also remember the last conversation we had.
He was one of those who took the baton from the days when reading manga made you a fool, and created an era when both adults and children could enjoy reading manga. He showed us the dream that manga can go global. It was like watching a hero going forward.
For not only manga artists but also the creators in various industries, the excitement and emotion of the time of Dragon Ball serialization must have taken root in their childhood.
His existence is like a big tree.
For the manga artists of our generation who stood on the same stage, the closer I got to Toriyama's works, the more I realised that they had a greater presence. Scary.
But I am just happy to see the easy-going man himself again. Because we love Toriyama-sensei on a blood level.
With respect and gratitude for the creative world he has left behind, I pray for his soulful rest in peace.
May heaven be the joyous world just as you envisioned it."
The creator of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama, has passed away at 68. He taught us that we all have a Goku in us and a Frieza to overcome. We all need a Krillin to have our back, and a Vegeta to challenge us. Rest in Peace and thank you for giving us the Greatest Anime of All Time. Say Hi to King Kai for us.

“Start with original Dragon Ball in Japanese or dub. When you start Dragon Ball Z there’s actually several different adaptations. There’s the original version with the Kikuchi score and the Funimation English dub with the Faulconer score. There’s also the Ocean dub which are a series of English dubs by the studio Ocean Group. You could also watch Dragon Ball Z Kai which cuts out all the filler and is an overall shorter experience. After you finish Z you can move on to Dragon Ball Super or GT. GT takes places 5 years after Z and isn’t considered “canon” anymore but has a satisfying conclusion to the franchise. Dragon Ball Super takes places about 6 months after Z and is the canon continuation. Okay now let’s talk movies and TV Specials…”
