On the 28th of July 2023, Shoebill Advocates hosted a film masterclass on the business of film.

The session was aimed at teaching filmmakers, actors content creators, film producers, and directors how to deliver a clean chain of title and copyright, clearance for their content, film, documentary, and television production.

During the session, entertainment lawyer Mr. Louis Lwanga shared why every film set needs a production lawyer. Why it is very important to engage the legal department at the starting stages of production.

In his sharing, he said a legal counsel plays a crucial role in the film production chain, the lawyer provides legal guidance and legal aspects of film production, distribution, and related activities in order to minimize legal risks. You surely need legal counsel.

The second speaker was Council Tumusime Derek a film lawyer and partner of Shoebill Advocates who share about the importance of copyright and at what stage you should do it.

The firm director Mr. Steven assured us that they have opened and are ready to work and partner with filmmakers and other creatives to extend services to them in the creative sector.
