I still to this day cannot play sonic water levels without panicking about hearing this sound! ๐ญ
They should have used pink water ๐
I'm curious on everyone's take on using @/everyone in your Discord servers for 'Going Live', 'Community events' etc over having a role that can be opted into for each of those in particular.
Personally, notifications from every server I am part of for every community post is incredibly stressful. I end up turning them off, especially if I am locked into something for a few days and can't be around.
But it does mean that I miss going live posts from friends, especially when they and their mods use @/everyone & @/here for everything. ๐ฑ
But I have found that having different roles that can be opted into has caused some of my own viewers to miss some posts, usually going live notifications. And they will mention as such in chat when they notice.
Perhaps that's my own fault for not making those roles clear enough? I'm not sure.
But I am certainly someone that doesn't use @/everyone or @/here for anything unless it's an extremely important announcement.
But I would like to know how others feel about this, and have you found any pros or cons for either side? ๐โจ
@SpartanFerrets I think it's wonderful you have friends that you feel safe enough with to know they won't take it personally and can discuss together what works best for you both! ๐ฅน๐
Indeed! And I usually end up choosing this option if the pings get too much for me :3
But it would be a good option to have different pings for different things so that I don't miss out on the posts that I *do* want to see :D
Having all types of posts under a single role ping removes that option and leaves people with only the option of getting notifs for everything or nothing at all ๐
I think I'll definitely have to look into updating my servers entry method then! I made it a long time ago before all these new settings were a thing, and a friend did mention to me that when they joined they were a little surprised to see the old verification method! ๐
Knowing there is a way that choosing a role is mandatory is definitely helpful! Thank you! โจ
Gosh even for friends I feel rude messaging to let them know ๐ญ
I feel like a lot of server owners might not be aware of the stress it causes some people because it's not something that someone will really bring up without feeling like they are telling them how to run their server y'know? ๐
@SpartanFerrets I can definitely understand this! They also overwhelm me and I usually end up turning off those notifications all together just to relieve some of that stress. But it is saddening missing out on an important post from friends when they use it for everything ๐ญ
Ooo! I don't think I've ever used this @/silent command! I'll need to look more into this! :O So it just gives the red icon on the server without it being on your discord icon on the task bar and the ping noise? ๐ฎ
It seems like you still have a way of letting your community choose which notifs to receive doing it this way? :D
@AkariTheWizard It might be because my Discord join set up is the super old way of doing things that I've having issues with it but do you find that some of your members haven't realised they can assign these those even though it's there in the onboarding? :O
Perhaps a middle ground would be to limit @/everyone to going live?
But maybe this is just a me problem. I really struggle with seeing notifications too much, I don't even like alarms on my phone x)
I do think that I'm not the only person that has this issue though. I think it's important to think about the different types of people and what works for them in your community?
Giving each person the power to control if they want the chaos of ALL the notifs or if they just want certain ones and be less overwhelmed? :3
I feel like that is true for a lot of people yes :3
But another reason for being a part of a streamers server is to interact and be a part of their community ^^
I feel like giving your members a choice of *what* they want to be notified of is more respectful?
If someone wants to join to be notified of going live, they can opt into that.
If someone wants to be notified of community events, they can opt into that.
Having @/everyone or @/here for EVERYTHING can be a little overwhelming, but that's just my own experience :3
