With this scene, we can almost conclude that digging up and getting rid of the bones is the key to going home. To me, MIY is simply threatening Tabitha to create panic so she'll either stop Jade or sabotage the plan herself. The moment he realized they were getting close, he stepped in.

Also, with only one season left, I find it hard to believe the writers would introduce an entirely new mystery. If something is awakened by removing the bones, it will probably be something directly connected to the existing story perhaps even the one thing capable of challenging or controlling MIY.

The fact that MIY is trying this hard to stop them makes me think they're finally on the right track.
