When the rest of the country was still figuring out how to fight back, one small village in Haryana decided enough was enough.

Rohnat. A quiet place near Hansi in what is now Bhiwani district. In May 1857, as the First War of Independence spread, the people of Rohnat didn’t wait for orders from Delhi or Lucknow. They rose together.

On 29 May they attacked the government treasury at Tosham, looted it, stormed the jail at Gujri Mahal in Hisar and freed the prisoners locked inside.

British officers were killed in Hansi and Hisar. Ordinary farmers, Jats, Bairagis, Khati all of them stood up as one.
Among the men who led that fight was Chaudhary Birhad Das Bairagi (also called Birhad Bairagi or Swami Birhad Das). Son of Rohnat. He wasn’t a king or a nawab. Just a man who refused to bow.

The British came for revenge with cannons and cavalry. They surrounded the village. Platoon 14. Artillery lined up around the fields. Then they made an example.

Birhad Das Bairagi was tied to the mouth of a cannon and blown apart in front of his own people. Two other leaders, Naunda Jat and Rupa Khati also met the same or similar fate.

Bodies torn and scattered across the fields. Other men were hanged from the old banyan tree near the village pond. Dozens more were taken to Hansi and crushed under a road roller on the road that is still called Lal Sadak the Red Road because the blood never fully washed away.

Women and children jumped into the village well rather than fall into British hands. The British later filled that well with soil so the survivors would have no water.

On 14 September 1857 the Deputy Commissioner formally declared Rohnat a “village of rebels.”

On 20 July 1858 they auctioned away more than 20,000 bighas of the village’s land for a few thousand rupees. The people who had fought for freedom were left almost landless. Only the pond and the well were left untouched.

The survivors refused to apologise. That refusal cost them everything they owned.

The British wanted to erase the name. They failed.

Today Rohnat is still called the village of rebels by history books written by the colonisers. The people of the village carried that label for generations. For more than seventy years after Independence they would not hoist the Tricolour on 15 August because, in their words, the freedom their ancestors paid for with blood had still not fully reached them. Only in 2018 did the national flag finally rise there.

Birhad Das Bairagi’s body was shattered by gunpowder. His name was not.
He did not die begging. He did not die running. He died standing against an empire that thought fear would silence people.
It didn’t.

Every time we talk about 1857 we remember the big names. We should also remember the men from villages like Rohnat who turned their homes into fortresses and paid the highest price so that the idea of freedom would not die.

Their blood wrote a chapter that the empire tried to burn. It is still burning in the memory of those who refuse to forget.

This story is not taught in South Indian state’s curriculum. 🍛 💼 converts without knowing how their ancestors fought, demean India and propagate that British did good for India. This barbarism is good, according to them. After 1857 first war of Independence, British handpicked and crushed every voice raised for freedom and every hand fought for it. Still they couldn’t crush the spirit. That’s why they planted MKG and Lehru.

2. Corinthians 14:34–35: "Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says."

3 Ephesians 5:22: "Wives, be subject to your husbands as you are to the Lord," a sentiment echoed in Colossians 3:18.

4 Corinthians 11:8–9 “Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.”

5 Genesis 3:16: As part of the consequence after eating the forbidden fruit, God tells the woman, "Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you."

6. Leviticus 15:19–30: Details ritual uncleanness associated with natural biological functions like menstruation, treating the state as contaminating to surrounding objects and people.

QURAN
1. Men are caretaker of women. Men have been provisioned by Allah over women. A righteous woman would be one who is devoutly obedient and, when alone, protective of what Allah has entrusted them with. And if you sense ill-conduct from your women, advise them ˹first˺, if they persist, do not share their beds, but if they still persist, then discipline them.

what that means: Men are superior, women need to take orders from them and if they don't then men has the right to decipline women.

2. Surah Al-Baqarah verse 223: Your wives are like farmland for you. Approach them as you please.

Meaning : Your wives are you farmland and you can do whatever you feel like doing with her. This is happening in a society where we talk about Marital rape,

3. Surah Al Nisa verse 24: All married women (muhsanat) are forbidden to you except those women whom your right hands have come to possess (as a result of war).

Meaning: Win girls from war and use them as you please.

4. Surah Al-Baqarah verse 282: And call to witness, from among your men, two witnesses. And if two men be not (at hand) then a man and two women, of such as ye approve as witnesses, so that if the one erreth (through forgetfulness) the other will remember.

Meaning : Weightage of a Man's testimony is twice than the weightage of a woman.

How many Christians read and believe in Bible? 100%
How many Muslims read or Believe in Quran? 100%
How many Hindus read or believe in Manusmriti? 1%

But what is problematic? MANUSMRITI ofcourse.

1. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan On Education and his so-called Progressive outlook

There is no contradiction between the Word of God (Koran) and the Work of God. Just as the students of Oxford and Cambridge have to visit the church and attend the prayer regularly, the students [of Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College] will have to offer the congregational prayer five times a day.

An education without religious instruction is a body without soul.

The natives of India when contrasted with the English in education, manners and uprightness, are as like them as a dirty animal is to an able and handsome man. The English have reason for believing us in India to be imbecile brutes.

It is certain the Hindu members will have four times as many [votes] because their population is four times as numerous. Therefore we can prove by mathematics that there will be four votes for the Hindu to every one vote for the Mahomedan. And now how can the Mahomedan guard his interests? It would be like a game of dice in which one man had four dice, and the other only one. In the second place, suppose that the electorate be limited. Some method of qualification must be made; for example, that people with a certain income shall be electors.

Now, I ask you, O Mahomedans! Weep at your condition! Have you such wealth that you can compete with the Hindus? Most certainly not. The whole Council will consist of Babu So-and-so Mitter, Babu So-and-So Ghose, and Babu So-and-so Chuckerbutty.

If the Congress were to rule the country, although they wish to do so in the name of all the people of India, the Muslims could be helpless as they would be in a minority. The Congress program is a race with Hindus with whom we have no chance of success.

2. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan On Class and Caste discrimination and bigotry:

It is very necessary that for the Viceroy's Council the members should be of high social position. I ask you — Would our aristocracy like it that a man of low caste or insignificant origin, though he be a B.A. or M.A., and have the requisite ability, should be in a position of authority above them and have power in making laws that affect their lives and property? Never! Nobody would like it. A seat in the Council of the Viceroy is a position of great honour and prestige. None but a man of good breeding can the Viceroy take as his colleague, treat as his brother, and invite to entertainments at which he may have to dine with Dukes and Earls.

In an address at the foundation laying ceremony of Madrasa Anjuman-e-Islamia in Bareli where children from the so-called 'low-caste' communities used to study, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan said that he finds no use in teaching English to them. "It is better and in the interests of the community that they are engaged in the old form of study. It appears appropriate if you teach them some writing and math. They should also be taught small tracts on everyday affairs and through which they know basic beliefs and practices of the Islamic faith," he told them.

3. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan On the two-nation theory:

The Hindus and the Muslims are two different nations. If separate regiments of Hindus and Muslims had been raised, this feeling of brotherhood would not have arisen. Now, suppose that all English, and the whole English army, were to leave India, taking with them all their cannon and their splendid weapons and everything, then who would be rulers of India? Is it possible that under these circumstances two nations — the Mahomedans and the Hindus — could sit on the same throne and remain equal in power? Most certainly not. It is necessary that one of them should conquer the other and thrust it down. To hope that both could remain equal is to desire the impossible and the inconceivable. It is, therefore, necessary that for the peace of India and for the progress of everything in India, the English Government should remain for many years — in fact forever! This is our true friendship with our Christian rulers, and we should not join those people who wish to see us thrown into a ditch. If we join the political movement of the Bengalis our nation will reap loss, for we do not want to become subjects of the Hindus instead of the subjects of the People of the Book.

4. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan On Allegiance to the British and the Raj:

The 1857 revolt was an act of Haramzadgi [Bastardliness]. The Mohemadans [in 1857] did not contemplate jihad against the Christians. Those who did were vagabonds and ill-conditioned men. To be faithful to one's salt is to disregard the first principles of our religion.

Loyalty to the British was the religious duty of Muslims. You [Moslems] are only justified in fighting the British if they actively prevent you from exercising your Islamic faith. We Mohammedans live in this country with every sort of religious liberty. We read our Azans as loud as we wish. We can preach our faith on public roads. We make converts of Christians to Islam without any fear of prohibition. Should the necessity arise, the stout hearts and strong arms of the students bred in MAO college would be ready to face bullets and bayonets in defense of the glorious empire to which it is our privilege to belong. We do not want to become subjects of the Hindus instead of the people of the Book [Christians]. The Koran is present for our guidance, which has ordained them, the Christians, and us to be friends. No Mohammedan can deny this: that God has said that no people of other religions can be friends of Mohammedans except Christians. He who had read the Quran and believes it, he can know that our nation [Muslims] cannot expect friendship and affection from any other people.
