Christopher Nolan is brilliant for muting the siren song because for Odyssey, a traumatized soldier with survivor's guilt, what he can no longer have is his unblemished former self

For us, our siren songs are all different, by refusing to let us hear it Nolan turns silence into mirror. we don't hear odyssey's deepest longing, but our own and for the moment his agony becomes ours.
