Dmitri Shostakovich

I started this to log my thoughts while composing my 4th and 5th symphonies.

Great critical (Party) success, and also being received well by (real) critics.

[Dmitri Shostakovich @ShostyMGR]

It is really about suffering, not triumph. The Party will love it, extoll it as a triumph of the government. My followers will know better!

Began writing the last movement. Rebirth. Using a song I wrote years ago extensively in it.

[Dmitri Shostakovich @ShostyMGR]

I am incorporating many other works into my Fifth, starting with Bizet and myself.

[Dmitri Shostakovich @ShostyMGR]

I have to follow in Gustav’s footsteps. His Fourth is where I will start.

[Dmitri Shostakovich @ShostyMGR]

Although it was completed last April and has been in rehearsals, it’s not time to premiere this now.

[Dmitri Shostakovich @ShostyMGR]

To my followers: I have to delay the premiere of my Fourth Symphony.

[Dmitri Shostakovich @ShostyMGR]

I fear the same may happen to me. I have to do what the Party wants and needs me to. Maybe that is the best way out of this.

[Dmitri Shostakovich @ShostyMGR]

My family and friends are slowly starting to fall out of contact. I’m afraid.

[Dmitri Shostakovich @ShostyMGR]

Mikhail was arrested today and charged with treason. I’m sure it was because of his involvement with me.

[Dmitri Shostakovich @ShostyMGR]

I may have a friend in my old friend and patron. Let’s hope he has some connections in the government.

[Dmitri Shostakovich @ShostyMGR]

My music is not too complex, just too complex for the government.

[Dmitri Shostakovich @ShostyMGR]

They’re telling me to make heroic music, but to conform to their ideology. There is no such thing!
