@BleedOilBlue As a Wings fan I'd love to see this. Larkin would probably fit well on the 2nd line w RNH.
Imo the return would need to be Savoie, Howard & picks package with at least one 1st.
@BoltsBreakdown The Wings should've traded them for more help or higher picks at the end of the Datsyuk/Zetterberg era. Everyone in Detroit thought they were the "next wave," but they were middle six guys who couldn't carry the team & ended up traded too late for mid round picks.
@BoltsBreakdown I doubt Yzerman makes this trade if it doesnt include O'Reilly & Geekie. As a Wings fan I'd still be disappointed in that return
As a Lightning fan as well here's why you trade. Those prospects are coming up as the bolts are coming down. I saw this in Detroit w Tatar & Nyquist
@pucksanddreams_ I'd take this as a Wings fan any day. I don't think I'd do it as a Sharks fan though. Honestly, I think Misa & Stenberg are both going to be as good if not better than Larkin, and ASP will probably always be slotted behind MO & Ed on the D-core
@BradKrysko Petersson is 3 yrs younger & actually has better avg stats than Larkin. Detroits team culture & his line mates would be an improvement from whatever he's dealing with in Vancouver.
Not my preferred option as a 1c but he would certainly keep the rebuild moving forward.
@DailyFaceoff@m_bultman@AGoldFan@NHL_AaronWard A package like that with
Utah would include Iginla, Desnoyers
Montreal it would include Hage, Zhardovsky
Philly it would include Michov or Tippet
San Jose, their 1st & Eklund or maybe Misa in a bigger trade
Sleeper...Edmonton, Savoie & Howard + picks
Ideal situation for the Wings is also a nightmare of the future.
Wings trade Larkin to Montreal for Hage & Zhardovsky or Hage + picks.
They watch Larkin be part of a cup dynasty in Montreal that most likely is an early barrier to them when they return to the playoffs
@wolfeynhlutah Personally as a Wings fan I'd take Cooley for Larkin in a straight swap, but I know that's fan fiction.
Iginla + lower picks package. If that's too high for Utah, Desnoyers + 1st
@Sonya_192039@greggkrupa I thought a trade was coming as soon as I found out Larkin was the one who filmed & posted the Team USA locker room celebration video.
It was a poor decision. He should've known better than to ppst it. It had a negative impact on every player on that team & followed them home
@squirtdemon9@greggkrupa@hockey_fan007 Gibson trade was good. Fabbri trade was also good. Trading Bertuzzi & Hronek brought in crucial 1sts. Walman & Sundqvist for Leddy was good (that 24 team was fun to watch & missed playoffs by tie breaker)
It looks like nothing today but it's part of rebuilding carousel
@HkytownHang EP40s career stat line is actually better than Larkins.
There's a 3 way trade here for either EP40 or Thomas that involves sending Larkin to a team for prospects & picks and then using those beans to acquire one of those two & then sign some impact wingers in free agency
@DetroitTankCity There's a lot of players where the opposite happens as well. Rick Nash is a good example. He pushed to be traded out of Columbus for the same reasons. He was 2 yrs younger than Larkin & never played at the same level once he was in NY.
@MarcRyanOnAir He wasn't the only one injured during that stretch. Copp, Rasmussen & Edvinsson were also out. Raymond was also injured but stayed in the line up most nights.
You can also add Nate Danielson to this list bc if he were healthy he would've been called up to be #1C over Compher
@Steinner92@313Hockey He has a point though. Remove the politics. The decision to record & then post this video on his socials was unprofessional. He's been around long enough to know better
Posting that vid created controversy for every player on Team USA after the win.
That's not C leadership
@pearlosnhlpow I like this trade, but man, that's a lot of gambles for Detroit π¬
As a Wings fan I'd rather drop off Brodin & add Stramel to their haul & maybe send Shai Buium to Min in exchange for Brodin & a random Min prospect going to Van
@GrindLinePod The Team USA locker room celebration video is another reason I'd choose Yzerman over Larkin.
Remove the politics. Posting that on his socials was just a really bad decision & he should've known better. It hurt & caused controversy for the entire team
Not what you want in a C
