Former Commanding Officer of 2 Mahar and ex-Commandant of the Centre, Col Bakshi embodies the finest traditions of the Indian Army. In Fauji culture, a soldier is never forgotten and never left behind—the bond of brotherhood lasts a lifetime.

On his 100th birthday, #IndianArmy salutes Col Kanwar Sain Bakshi, AVSM (Retd), an iconic son of the #MAHARRegiment and one of its most distinguished veterans.

As Commanding Officer of 2 MAHAR during the 1965 Battle of Asal Uttar, Col Bakshi led the battalion through one of the most glorious chapters in its history, contributing to the award of the Battle Honour "Asal Uttar" and Theatre Honour "Punjab".

As Commandant of the MAHAR Regimental Centre for a record seven-and-a-half years, he shaped generations of officers and soldiers, oversaw the historic Presentation of Colours in 1970 and strengthened the Regiment's foundations. Following the 1971 War, he established and supervised one of the largest Prisoner of War Camps at Dhana, Madhya Pradesh, housing over 15,000 prisoners.

On the occasion, the Colonel of the MAHAR Regiment conveyed the gratitude of the Indian Army and the MAHAR fraternity, describing Col Bakshi as a shining example of devotion to duty, loyalty to the Regiment and service to the Nation.

The Indian Army salutes a soldier, leader, mentor and legend.
