🤓🧵My team joined @shreyas last night for an NYC PM meet up. One insight he shared was the key to a durable long-term product strategy is to start with your customer segments. Furthermore, those segments should be unique to your business, not the same as your competitors.
Beyond a certain level in your career, there is no permanent solution to a lack of time. The best way to cope with this new reality is to be extremely clear on the 1-2 things you must focus on doing really well in a given day, given week, given month (and actually get them done).
If you are a hiring manager, pay attention to hiring & retaining folks that are high agency. More often than not, you’d feel you are resource constrained, and the markup of your team would determine a lot of your team’s future.
4 observations:
1) Every team has its challenges
2) Every team feels its challenges are very unique
3) Every high agency team recognizes that harder challenges have been overcome by teams with fewer resources
4) Every low agency team finds a way to paint itself as a victim
With an ROI mindset, we occupy our time with quick, incremental wins which often lack cohesion & don’t add up to a major singular impact.
With an opportunity cost mindset, we focus on the highest impact work we could possibly take on. This favors big wins, rather than quick wins

@shreyas on roadmap planning and choosing bets to work on:
Often, teams focus on high ROI work. They should actively consider allocating some percentage to work that minimises opportunity cost.
