ADVOCATE FEEDBACK
An Advocate was with a client in her 80s with multiple disabilities, when she was a victim of cold callers. They were very unprofessional & refused to leave the property. The Advocate called the police & contacted the Company and made an official complaint.
A client was helped to replace her smoke detector which she was unable to maintain as it was on the ceiling of her landing,
The housing association quickly replaced the whole system with one that is easier to manage.

One of our advocates works with a disabled lady who wanted her dog officially registered as a therapy/support dog. We wrote a letter to confirm how the dog helps her which she shows when visiting local amenities - with great success!

We are the only independent advocacy service in Shropshire and one of only a few voluntary services that visit clients in their own homes offering long-term help and support to the most vulnerable and marginalised people with multiple disabilities and complex needs.
A client suffering a stroke returned with different medication on top of what he was taking. This left him very anxious.
Our advocate phoned his GP and pharmacy and made sure it was all put into an organiser so that he now takes the correct meds at the right dose.
ADVOCATE FEEDBACK
Our advocate sat with a client for hours offering reassurance until she was admitted to hospital. After 2 weeks she was transferred into respite care but wished to return home. We arranged for an assessment & identified extra support so she can remain at home.

โข Iโm in control of my finances
โข Iโm now living at home with my family
โข Iโve moved on with my life and got a good job
โข Iโm now able to speak up at meetings regarding my children

We supported a client with a brain injury to appeal penalty charge notices for her NHS prescriptions. The client had ticked the incorrect box which triggered the penalty. We rang and explained & both penalties were removed.
Each year we help over 200 people with mental health issues, including anxiety and depression.
So many clients lost confidence during the Covid Pandemic and many are still unable to deal with issues because face-to-face meetings have not been reinstated post-Covid.

A good result for a client when a helpful heating engineer went above and beyond for an elderly, vulnerable client with no heating or water.
Our advocate contacted the Gas Safe Company and two days later a new boiler was installed.

Due to literacy difficulties, one of our clients is unable to write greetings cards for family & friends. One of our advocates writes these on her behalf. Just a small task, but it makes a huge difference to the client to stay connected to family & friends.
Vulnerable people often donโt have the ability to make decisions or they find it hard to have their voices heard when big, important decisions are made about them. At Shropshire PCAS we change 'you can't' to 'I can', every day.

This is a question we get asked frequently. In many cases, the Advocate is a friend or family member, or it may be a nurse or social worker. But what if you donโt have any of these people to help or they are part of the problem? This is where independent Advocacy can help.
One of our advocates helped a client arrange and re-arrange (4 times) a minor operation. There was no co-ordination between the hospital and the home where she lived or any account of her physical mobility or access to transport. Thankfully, the client has now had her operation.
Can you help? We need businesses to raise funds for us through activities or to nominate us as their charity of the year.
We offer publicity through our website or leaflets and are building a list of home/garden services for clients.

We recently supported a client to appeal to his Landlord, against an eviction notice. We checked & found an error in the evidence & appealed on this basis. The appeal was allowed, and the client is now staying at the property & is very relieved & grateful to PCAS for their help.

We helped a lady who came to Britain during the Windrush Generation and wanted to complete the necessary forms to confirm her British Citizenship. After nearly 2 years of delay, her citizenship has been confirmed and she has applied for a British Passport.
