I knew Sh. K.P.S. Gill closely in the last years of his life. The world knew the tough officer, and I had the privilege of knowing the man. He co-authored a book on Punjab with me. His heart bled for Punjab till his final breath. He was a hard taskmaster, yes, but with a sense of humour that could fill a room. Few people know that he spent much of his time in his final years in Vrindavan, slowly turning inward. Whatever anyone’s opinion of him, this much I witnessed with my own eyes, that he loved this country more than he loved himself. A true patriot. He had no regrets, other than not being given an opportunity to stabilise Kashmir. He loved India deeply. That, I can say as a witness. 🙏
