As a designer in my 30s who has worked in 4 different countries and countless projects, here are 5 things I'd tell myself at 20.

> Design is a job. Don't make it your entire personality.

> Pursue your curiosities and allow yourself to be obsessed with them.

> Be ready to move. Design careers need exposure and a market that allows you to play. Very few places in the world have that.

> Learn to identify supporters, gatekeepers and spectators. Most people are spectators. Spend your energy on the first group and stop auditioning for the second.

> Build something that is yours alongside the job. A side project, a community, a small product. A job can end in a ten minute meeting.

BONUS: Marry a designer :)

Day 49 of building my Idea capture device!

The app is actually taking shape now.
Brought my rough frameworks into the app. Two out of four pages have structure - I also have a couple of features I really like. still working on the UI but it's getting closer to my vision!
