No wonder we struggle to have healthy relationships. We were never taught to get to know ourselves.
What do I want to be or do?
What are my values, talents, weaknesses, ideas?
You can't love someone else well
until you learn to love yourself well.

It's not the fault of a gay person that a homophobe is offended by their presence.
Therefore, if you tell your truth and people don't like it, that's on them. You are not responsible for lying to them to protect their feelings.

Baptism Day is like your only birthday in the Org. The one day where people tell you that you did something good. You might even get to pick the restaurant your family eats at that evening.
It's very short lived, but you get a little approval.

Sam's parents tried to reach out after the Org changed their wording on shunning. But she shut that down fast.
You're not people that I want to give my peace to.
Because you haven't done your own healing.
And you'll always try to get me to come back.

"Lost my family, lost all of my friends - The price was worth my freedom."
Which means that you are worth the price you paid. We were taught that we are worthless slaves, and that belief can get in the way of doing what is best for ourselves. But you can have a better life!
Sam hopes to someday run into those elders. She would tell them thank you. What they did showed her that her best would be rejected. And reminded her of all of the other times she was punished unfairly.
Thank you to the #JehovahsWitnesses who reminded us of how awful they are.
Sam made sacrifices. Full Time Pioneering, changing jobs so she could go in service mid-week, working as little as possible...
The elders took away her pioneering because she was short 80 hours. She was punished despite doing all of the things asked of her.

Do you wish you could do some simple activism from the comfort of your own home?
Would you like to help the public to know more of the awful things Jehovah's Witnesses do?
Do Jehovah's Witnesses hold Conventions or Assemblies in your area?
Do you wish you could let the venue know that they are hosting a cult?
Would they change their plans if they knew?

Healing is a process, not an event.
Some things come out of the blue and you didn't anticipate that it was going to be so hard for you.
But that is all part of the healing process.

The people who say
You can't and
You won't
Are usually the ones scared that
You will
Jodi is telling her story today because she isn't going to live scared. And Jodi is going to be Jodi.

When we leave, so many of us go on a search for Truthโข. As though there is only One True Path, otherwise you are Wrong.
But who told you that there was One Truthโข? That belief is just as harmful as the rest.
We are humans, and we are doing our best.

Jodi saw her brother be emotionally destroyed by the situation he was in. Even as young as she was, she recognized that he needed to be loved, held, comforted, and supported in that time. But he was #shunned instead.
Empathy goes out the window when the cult can punish instead.
If JWs were preaching and met someone who was "sinning" - whether it be smoking, adultery, or murder - they would immediately accept that person if they showed interest.
But a kid who was raised around the Witnesses who "sins" must be punished for an indefinite amount of time.
