A Rockstar developer sat down to playtest one story mission in GTA 6 as Jason.

Two hours later, he still hadn’t reached it.

A car crash turned into a fight, which turned into a robbery, which turned into a police chase across Vice City. The open world just refused to let him go.

If the people who made the game can’t stick to the main mission, we’re cooked.

Clarity is usually more valuable than confidence.

The moment you stop needing everyone to understand you, a lot of things get easier.

[ShushantoKumar @ShushantoK]

Most progress is invisible for a long time.
Then it looks sudden.

[ShushantoKumar @ShushantoK]

Doing something average consistently usually beats doing something great occasionally.

[ShushantoKumar @ShushantoK]

The fastest way to waste time is trying to optimize something you haven’t even tested yet.

[ShushantoKumar @ShushantoK]

Sometimes the best fix is deleting half the detail and rebuilding the big shapes again.

[ShushantoKumar @ShushantoK]

Hair is one of the easiest ways to hide weak head construction.
And one of the fastest ways to reveal it when you turn the model.

[ShushantoKumar @ShushantoK]

Stylized characters are harder than people think.
You’re not just simplifying;
you’re choosing what to exaggerate without losing readability.

[ShushantoKumar @ShushantoK]

Everyone wants the result.
Almost no one wants the boring middle part that actually creates it.

The wrestlers who can do both character and in-ring work are the ones who last. Everything else is temporary.

Most people don’t actually want advice.
They want confirmation that what they’re already doing is fine.

[ShushantoKumar @ShushantoK]

We’re watching the cost of average creative work collapse while the value of distinctive work rises.
Interesting time to have actual craft.

[ShushantoKumar @ShushantoK]

Character design is mostly deciding what not to show.

[ShushantoKumar @ShushantoK]

I still spend more time pushing big forms than refining small details.
Small details on weak forms just make the problems clearer.

[ShushantoKumar @ShushantoK]

A good character silhouette still does more work than most details.
You can mess up a lot of things and still look solid if the outline is strong.

@1k_clouds That’s true. I’ve also missed replies that I was supposed to respond to because of the notification issues.

@OliverBugar Best of luck with it. Building something of your own while balancing everything else isn’t easy.
