Listening to a sermon this weekend, I learned that the Jewish Talmud (Sanhedrin 41a) records that 40 years before the destruction of the Jewish Temple in 70 AD, the Sanhedrin officially lost the legal authority to carry out capital punishment.

Forty years before 70 AD is 30 AD… most likely the year Jesus died. This wasn't a coincidence, it was divine providence setting the stage for the cross.

If Jesus had been arrested just a year earlier, the Jewish leaders would have executed Him the way they wanted to... by stoning, because stoning was their method of capital punishment. But stoning wouldn't have fulfilled all the OT Scriptures prophesying His crucifixion, and it would’ve made Jesus a liar because He foretold His own crucifixion, too.

God used the shifting political landscape of the Roman Empire and the Jewish courts to ensure that when the time came, the Jewish leaders were legally powerless to kill Jesus their way. They had to hand Him over to the Romans. They had to use the cross.

When Pilate told them to judge Jesus themselves, they had to admit the frustrating truth that it was not lawful for them to put anyone to death (John 18:31). And John records the reason for this in the next verse: "This was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken to show by what kind of death he was to die."

The Jews thought they were just using Roman law to get rid of a troublemaker... they didn't realize they were unwittingly fulfilling the exact specifications of God's redemptive plan.

Not a single detail was left to chance. God was orchestrating the salvation of the world, down to the very method of execution. For my sin, and for yours.

It honestly blows my mind when we get to see these little glimpses of how perfectly God's sovereignty works (seemingly) behind the scenes of human history.

Today, tens of thousands of people are gathered in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert for Burning Man.

The event began in 1986, when a small group gathered on Baker Beach in San Francisco and burned an eight-foot wooden figure. To the world, Burning Man is an innocent celebration of art, community, and self-expression.

But look more closely.

Beneath the lights, costumes, fire, and music are unmistakable echoes of ancient pagan worship - ritual, altered consciousness, sexual immorality, self-deification, and the burning of a human figure before a massive crowd.

What we are witnessing is not merely another festival. It is a picture of mankind’s ancient spiritual problem dressed in modern clothing.

Israel two thousand years ago had tremendous religious zeal, yet many failed to recognize their Messiah.

“For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.”

Today, mankind has more knowledge than any previous generation.

Daniel also wrote:

“Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”

We are watching both unfold before our eyes.

People are constantly running from one place, experience, and spiritual pursuit to another, while human knowledge increases at an unprecedented speed.

We may soon have an iPhone 18. AI can already provide instant answers, and robots will soon perform many of our daily tasks.

Yet increased knowledge has not produced truth, righteousness, or peace. Technology can make life easier, but it cannot heal the human heart. Artificial intelligence can provide answers, but it cannot provide salvation.

Jeremiah remains painfully correct:

“The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it?”
Jeremiah 17:9

People travel the world, explore every philosophy, experiment with every substance, and pursue every spiritual experience in search of freedom, identity, meaning, and peace.

They have knowledge.
They have zeal.
But they still do not know the Messiah.

The real problem of mankind is not a lack of education, creativity, freedom, or spiritual experiences. It is sin. The human heart is separated from God, enslaved to its own desires, and incapable of saving itself.

Deep inside, people know that they cannot save themselves. Yet they do not necessarily want God - because God requires repentance, surrender, and accountability.

Satan offers a counterfeit spirituality without holiness, worship without truth, freedom without accountability, and temporary escape without salvation.

But Yeshua the Messiah offers something entirely different.

He did not come to help us escape reality for one week. He came to set us free from the sin that rules our hearts. He did not come merely to improve our lives. He came to give us new life.

Yeshua took upon Himself the judgment our sins deserved, died in our place, and rose again. Through repentance and faith in Him, we receive forgiveness, reconciliation with God, a new heart, and freedom from the guilt, penalty, and power of sin.

That is real freedom.

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
John 8:36

Ancient paganism continues returning because the human heart remains unchanged. The names have changed. Technology has advanced. But mankind’s emptiness remains the same.

Man does not need another festival, ritual, substance, experience, or technological breakthrough.

He needs forgiveness.
He needs a new heart.
He needs salvation.
He needs Yeshua.

The first Christian was a felon.

Not Peter.
Not Paul.
Not your pastor.

A criminal. Hanging on a cross. Hours from death.

He beat everyone to paradise.

Before the disciples figured out the resurrection.
Before Paul got knocked off his horse.

A thief looked at Jesus and said, "Remember me."

And Jesus said, "Today."

The first Christian had no church.
No baptism.
No 6-week membership class.

He had nails in his wrists and six hours to live.

And he's been in paradise for 2,000 years.

Meanwhile.

You've been in church for 20 years.
You can articulate penal substitutionary atonement.

And you're still wondering if that guy who prayed last week really "got it."

The first Christian didn't "get it."

He got HIM.

He didn't understand substitution.
He didn't understand justification by faith alone.

He understood one thing:

The man next to him was a King.

And he wanted in.

"Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom."

That's the whole conversion.

No altar call.
No follow-up email.

Just a criminal, a King, and a request.

And here's the part that should wreck you:

His theology was WRONG.

"When you come into your kingdom."

He got the timeline completely wrong.

And Jesus saved him anyway.

He didn't correct his eschatology.
Didn't say, "Well actually..."

He just said, "Today."

The first Christian had bad theology and a good King.

Some of you have great theology and no King at all.

You've won every argument.
And you've never once said "remember me" like you meant it.

The first Christian wasn't impressive.

He was desperate.

And desperation got him further than your diploma.

2,000 years of church history.

Councils. Creeds. Confessions.

And the first one through the door was a dying criminal who couldn't even fold his hands.

You scrolling through X right now with your Reformed credentials and your theological hot takes...

The guy who beat you to paradise couldn't read.

He knew one thing:

He was dying.
And so was Jesus.
And Jesus was still a King.

That's faith.

Not a system. A surrender.
Not knowledge. Recognition.
Not performance. Desperation.

The first Christian.

A felon.
A failure.
A man with hours to live and nothing to offer.

And he's been home longer than anyone.

What's your excuse?

If Lindsay Clancy is found innocent because hormones made her emotionally unstable, women better be very careful celebrating that verdict.

Because the law loves PRECEDENT.

From that day forward, every job application is going to have a new question:

“Are you currently hormonal?”

“Well, I’m a woman.”

“Thank you. I think we’ll be going in another direction.”

You can’t carry a weapon anymore. No female police officers. Sorry, but we cannot hand a loaded gun to somebody whose legal defense might eventually be, “My hormones were acting up.”

No more high-stress jobs, either. No air-traffic controllers. No surgeons. No nuclear-launch codes. One bad hot flash and boom 💥 Canada is glowing.

And women definitely can’t be judges. How can you decide whether somebody else is emotionally stable when your own gender just established in court that hormones can make you kill three people?

No female politicians, either. You can’t be trusted to run the country if, according to your own argument, your endocrine system occasionally takes over the government.

And custody hearings are going to change overnight.

The judge will say, “Ordinarily, children belong with their mother. However, according to the Lindsay Clancy precedent, she may be only one hormone away from a Netflix documentary. The children go with Dad.”

Dad doesn’t know their shoe sizes, the pediatrician’s name or which one is allergic to peanuts, but his testosterone has never been successfully used as an insanity defense.

Feminists spent a hundred years saying women are not hysterical, irrational creatures controlled by their biology and one defense attorney walks into court and says, “Ladies and gentlemen of the jury… have you considered the uterus?”

You cannot demand equal authority and then ask for discounted accountability.

If women want equal rights, great. But equal rights come with equal wrongs.
Otherwise, that glass ceiling is about to become a padded ceiling.

Y cuanto más preguntaba, más evidente se volvía.

El marxista podía explicarte durante horas quién tenía la culpa.

Pero cuando preguntabas cómo funcionaría concretamente esa nueva sociedad, las respuestas se hacían más oscuras.

Y quizá por eso, cuando intentaba ahondar en estos temas, la conversación siempre volvía al mismo lugar: cómo tomar el poder. No pasaban de eso.

Por eso hoy, cuando escucho a alguien hablar durante horas sobre la explotación, destruir el sistema y construir una sociedad nueva, mi primera pregunta es:

¿Cómo vas a hacerla funcionar?

Nunca verás a un marxista responderte esto porque literalmente no puede, no sabe.

Entonces deduce que, al igual que como con cualquier otra estafa piramidal, cuando hagas preguntas directas y concretas al marxismo, este intentará evitar en todo momento darte respuestas claras.
