Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has stopped 50 out of 57 ongoing infrastructure works launched by the Previous DMK Govt as CMDA simply doesn't have money... @CMOTamilnadu@CMDA_Official
When a state and its politicians don't have vision for long term infra projects like roads, airports, power plants this is what happens. They happily take a charter flight or helicopter or get traffic diverted. Rest 99% of the public suffers like this. More to come 🙂🙏
TN Govt granted administrative approval forஅண்ணன் சீர் திட்டம் under which 8 grams of gold coins and silk sarees will be provided to brides getting married. Allocation of 812 Crs. TN debt situation getting worse. No money being spent on infra...🥲🚶♂️🚶♂️
Today, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru @TVKVijayHQ announced in the assembly that the TN Government has decided to cancel the Parandur Airport Project. TN CM mentioned that certain sites are under consideration, but it would have been helpful if he had also proposed a new site for the second airport near Chennai, as the delay in identifying its location has set the state's development back by at least 10 years.
This announcement of the cancellation of the new airport project carries an opportunity cost that the State Government needs to consider carefully. Even if the TN Government chooses to move forward with a second airport instead of Parandur through an administrative decision soon, finding a site, taking approval from the Central Government and statutory bodies, issuing tenders, acquiring land, and securing licenses could take at least ten years before the airport becomes operational. Meanwhile, other States would be advancing, leaving us behind.
We should first accept that the current airport in Chennai is insufficient even by today's standards. Chennai’s airport spans a 1300-acre land parcel; Hyderabad's airport spans approximately 5,500 acres; Bengaluru's spans 4000 acres; Navi Mumbai's is built on 2866 acres; and Delhi airport spans 5100 acres. With such a small space, the current airport in Chennai should ideally offer a better customer experience, but taking local transport from the arrivals area is a nightmare today.
Chennai was once the gateway of South India. Today, Chennai airport ranks 5th in total passenger-handling capacity, with a capacity of 30 million passengers per year. Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are above Chennai on this table. The present Chennai airport is not classified as a Code F airport due to inadequate taxiways and aerobridges, which make landing large aircraft such as the A380 unsuitable at Chennai. In the South, the Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports can handle large aircraft.
Considering the above, I request the TN Govt to accelerate the process of identifying a suitable location for the 2nd airport in Chennai at the earliest, as delays in site identification could push us well beyond 10 years. Parties may come and go. Governments will change. But 20 years later, when the people of Tamil Nadu look back, they should not feel suffocated by a sick building that we would still call an airport, because the administrators of the day lacked the ability to forecast.
Also, in March this year, news reports stated that the TN Govt had acquired 1,700 acres for the Parandur airport project, out of the 5,746 acres needed. What does the State govt now intend to do with this acquired land?
@sophiapeppin@UpdatesChennai Ok leave about Hosur what is the alternate to Parandur? An opposition can oppose but ruling govt should have alternate before even stalling a project especially as important as an airport...
@georgeviews Blindly supporting is the way bhakts do... Ask in any dwelling unit u will know the truth of surge... Even if 2 ACs are used, Govt is for everyone infact we pay taxes more
🚨 Parandur Airport - Chennai
Former #TamilNadu CM #EdappadiPalaniswami speaks about #Parandur Airport for #Chennai and its importance in the Tamil Nadu assembly today
- Airports are needed for luring investments and also helps in growth of the State and talks about new Airports at #Hosur
If Parandur isn’t happening, just give off MAA to Adani. I’m sure Chennai ain’t getting an airport in the next 5 years. At least Adani might prevent ceiling collapses and keep the toilets clean unlike AAI.
The moment you land in Chennai Airport, you will experience a Safari ride which even Masai Mara won’t give you.
Once you Land, Find your Bags, then Find the buggy stand. Join the queue. Wait. Watch others also wait. Buggy arrives. Buggy takes you on a scenic tour of the entire airport campus. Finally drops you at the taxi counter.
Then you realise, you have to take an elevator to get your Ola/Uber. Now find the elevator. Elevator fits exactly 4 people and your luggage does not count. Wait for the next one. Reach the taxi stand. Join another queue.
This whole journey will be longer than your actual flight duration.
If India ever ranks its worst airports, Chennai does not just top the list.
Chennai is the list.
HCL to invests $234 million in to Sarvam and picks up ~15% minority stake in the AI startup. Sarvam AI is already setting up Soverign AI Parks in several states including India's first at Kanchipuram, Chennai at a cost of ₹10,000 Crs...🥳🙌
Two questions for TVK supporters and everyone demanding that Parandur Airport be scrapped:
1️⃣ What is the practical alternative? Has any viable alternate site been identified that satisfies aviation, land, connectivity and expansion requirements?
2️⃣ How long should Chennai wait for its second airport? While Delhi and Mumbai are already developing second airports, and Bengaluru and Hyderabad are advancing plans for theirs, what is the realistic timeline being proposed for Chennai?
Before saying "drop Parandur", there needs to be a credible alternative and a clear timeline.
And no, "Chennai doesn't need a second airport" is not an answer. Expansion of other Tamil Nadu airports is already underway and has nothing to do with Chennai's long-term aviation capacity needs.
For those chennai people who think airport is for elite people

@baluguna005 @UpdatesChennai@CMOTamilnadu@TVKVijayHQ Typical fan reply, if democracy means anyone can form govt irrespective of experience, u should also be broad enough to take criticism, if Parandur is a problem identified in 2025, new govt should have identified new place too, should have had basic contingency...
