Actually, what you should take from that little machine is not “79% AI”.

It is: this person knows how to construct an argument.

I went to primary school. Then secondary school. I did GCSEs and A-levels. I went to university and got a degree. I kept reading. I kept writing. I kept learning. Then I spent the best part of thirty years farting around on the internet, learning how arguments mutate once you throw them into an online ecosystem full of cranks, obsessives, academics, journalists, trolls and people whose principal contribution to discourse is a Pepe avatar.

Eventually I coughed up a few quid a month for X because I wanted enough characters to actually finish a thought and I cannot be arsed starting a Substack.

So yes, my posts tend to have a proposition, evidence, context, counterargument, conclusion and the occasional joke about Italian restaurants.

Apparently this now makes me a robot.

The slightly awkward problem with AI detectors is that they are not examining my educational history, reading habits, writing experience or the fact that I have been doing this sort of thing since before half the people replying to me had broadband.

They are looking for statistical patterns in prose.

And sometimes competent human prose has those patterns too.

Perhaps the machines should add another category:
