I’ve always never been able to decide which is Britain’s most beautiful bit: North Devon or the Yorkshire Dales. But I’ve just spent the last three days in the Scottish Borders and now I have an answer. God almighty, they’re beautiful. Also, I bought some cows there.
I’m a chemist. I need to say this - because it’s getting dangerous out there. The biggest health myth in the world isn’t about vaccines.
Or GMOs. Or fluoride.
It’s the root of all of them.
It’s called chemophobia - and it’s killing science.
Fear of “chemicals” now drives vaccine rejection, GMO bans, food hysteria, and entire political movements.
From tampons to tap water, people have been taught to fear chemistry - the very thing that keeps us alive.
Chemophobia tells us:
“Natural is good.”
“Synthetic is bad.”
That’s a lie.
Botulinum toxin is 100% natural and one of the deadliest molecules known. Aspirin is synthetic and life-saving.
We’ve gone from banning harmful substances for good reason…to banning safe, well-tested molecules for emotional reasons.
You’ve seen the slogans: “If you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it.” “Paraben-free.” “Clean beauty.”
They sound empowering. But they’re not science - they’re marketing. And they’re making the world dumber, poorer, and sicker.
Your body doesn’t care if a molecule comes from a plant or a lab. Vitamin C is vitamin C.
Formaldehyde is formaldehyde and your body makes more of it every day than any vaccine ever could.
Dose matters. Source doesn’t.
This fear isn’t harmless.
It shapes public policy.
It blocks innovation.
It raises food prices.
It slows down cancer treatments.
Chemophobia is now mainstream and it’s costing lives. Scientists aren’t losing because we’re wrong.
We’re losing because fear spreads faster than facts. Because influencers sell fear for clicks.
Because lawyers monetize doubt. And because scientists are too tired to fight back.
So here’s my message, as a chemist and as a citizen: Learn how toxicology works.
Call out chemical fear-mongering. Support policies based on evidence, not emotion.
Chemistry isn’t the enemy. It’s the reason you have clean water, safe food, and modern medicine.
If we let fear win, we lose all of it.
For the umpteenth time:
Vaccines work.
Chemtrails do not exist.
mRNA is in everything you eat.
Everything is made of chemicals.
Natural is not a synonym for safe.
It’s the dose that makes the poison.
Most internet health scares collapse the moment you learn basic chemistry.
🚨 BREAKTHROUGH: Scientists at the University of Nottingham have developed a new enamel-repairing gel that starts restoring teeth in just 2 WEEKS.
This could replace fillings and change dental treatment worldwide, with use expected around 2026–2027.
I started this account 13 years ago when I got the opportunity to write at @barstoolsports. I never thought my Tweets would reach more than a few Yankee fans.
And that’s pretty much how it stayed until December of 2019, when one morning, I tweeted:
“I just woke up to this puppy in my house and we have no idea how it got here.”
None of us had any idea what was about to happen next.
So many of you shared our story, retweeted us, messaged us, and helped introduce the world to Suzy. What started as one random tweet about a stray dog turned into something that changed our lives forever.
This morning, we lost Suzy.
And while this is absolutely devastating for our family, I wanted to take a minute to thank all of you who have supported us over the years — whether it was a like, a message, a retweet, telling someone about her story, buying a copy of A Stray Dog for Christmas, bringing us to a school, or simply saying something kind.
The internet can be such a dark place sometimes, but all of you helped create a light in the world that was Suzy.
Because of you, her story reached millions of people. Hundreds of animals found homes. Thousands of children got the chance to meet her and hear her story. And hopefully, somewhere along the way, a few more people chose compassion because of a little dog that wandered into our lives one winter night.
We are heartbroken today. But we are also incredibly grateful.
Thank you all for loving Suzy with us.
We love you forever, Suzy.
You can ask whether vaccines are safe. But when decades of research and millions of lives saved answer “yes,” refusing to accept it is no longer critical thinking.
