I swear to god people who don't understand the sport need to stop being so loud.
Let’s try to break this down into little bitty chunks for you to understand:
-All teams and drivers decide their pit strategy based on what they anticipate their own race looks like and when they think their competitors might box.
-If you have similar pace to the person you are trying to beat, you try to offset your strategy. Why? Because if you box at the exact same time, you will both be on the exact same strategy and you will still be stuck once again right behind them for the rest of the race.
-In any situation: The driver who is in front physically enters the pit lane first. That impacts when the driver behind them boxes so that they have a chance to come out in front of their opponent.
-This gets a little more complicated when both drivers competing for the WDC are on the same team. There is only one box for both drivers to share. They cannot both physically fit into that box at the same time. If they both pit at the same time, it will be a double stack - the car in back will get held up in pit lane and their race will be ruined.
--- What that means:
The driver in front has pit priority. Their choice for when they box ends up setting out how the driver in back will need to offset their strategy. It is the front driver’s choice for when they want themselves to pit, every time. Lando has gotten screwed by that multiple times when he’s behind, its not ideal, but that's how it works when you are on the same team and are the driver physically in front or physically in back during that race.
--- So yesterday in Singapore:
1) When the time came for pit stops, Lando was the car in front on track. Lando would decide when he personally would box because he would physically enter the pit lane first.
2) Oscar was the driver in the back, so his team will decide his best strategy options once they see what Lando has decided on - because Lando will physically be entering the box first and Oscar will not want to double stack behind him.
3) Because of the wdc fight this year, each side of the garage acts on its own. Will Joseph is Lando's engineer. He helps Lando plan Lando's own pit strategy.
4) During the race, when looking at the publicly available data (**You guys can read it too! but 81s “don’t like data”), it was obvious to anyone that Oscar was likely going to box soon to protect himself from an undercut by Charles.
5) Will Joseph is an engineer who read data He then went to his own driver and presented that information: Oscar was going to have to box soon to protect himself from Charles.
6) Will Joseph asked Lando (**the driver in front) if Lando would prefer to go longer knowing Oscar was about to box because of Charles, or if Lando would prefer to box now.
**Verbatim:
"Lando, the gap to Oscar is 4.7. He's going to have to pit soon to cover Leclerc. Are you willing to let Oscar pit the lap before you?"
7) Lando then made his own choice about his own race: No he does not want to go another lap longer knowing that Oscar is about to box. He wants to box now.
8) Lando, as the front car, then went into pit lane and the back driver adjusted his own strategy based on what the best options were after seeing what the front driver had chosen. Just like teams do during every race, every season.
This should not be a foreign concept. For the love of god PLEASE learn anything about this sport because you're making yourselves look stupid and you're exhausting the rest of us.
This is why shows like #Adolescence are needed more than ever. We must ban men like this from having platforms and influencing young men. While rapists like Tate & MacGregor are backed by the most powerful men in the world, women will continue to die.
What is so brilliant about this tweet is the fact that the show so perfectly depicts how boys like this are created because of nameless, faceless online accounts like these that spew out all this rubbish and it is absolutely perfect that the concept is completely lost on you.
Only in a year where #GiselePélicot holds 50 men who raped her to account does a rapist President get named Person of the Year (for the second time). The message is clear: misogyny rewards power, while survivors like Gisele fight to ensure #ShameMustChangeSides.
