It’s weird to watch ‘you can’t cancel me 🖕’ comedians and audience members in the west learn that cancel culture (a term pretty casually thrown around and profited off) was an onslaught of feedback and hate. But a legitimate attack on free speech punishes you through legal process, monetary pressure, and pure intimidation. Feedback and blowback are not the same as a state initiated beatdown. In either situation I believe a comedian should be able to say anything they want to. But catching a wave of hate doesn’t mean your free speech is under attack, it means your ears are. When your free speech is actually attacked, your ears are fine, they come for your mouth.
