Seriously if you're a Christian and you're spending time making other people or yourself afraid you have not read the gospels enough.
Come at me all you want. I stand by what I read in Matthew Mark Luke and John.
I am so tired of all this fear-mongering bullshit.
Put your phones down, go be nice to people, and don't be surprised when people are nice back to you.
Quit acting like just because people are different than you that they're a fucking threat.
Especially if you're Christian.
To my friends on the right: A few months after an assassination attempt on the Democratic Governor of PA, and 60 days or so after the assassination of a MN Democratic state legislator, if your reaction to yesterday’s assassination of a right wing media figure is “screw you Joe, only the left engages in violence,” you are factually dead wrong, you’re incapable of putting your country first, and the political violence from ALL sides will only continue. If your reaction to yesterday is to declare “war on the left,” shame on you. YOU are the problem. Be better. Put your country first.
Just putting this here for anyone who might like to hear Bobby Kennedy's remarks to a predominantly black audience in Indianapolis on the evening of April 4, 1968, after the murder of Martin Luther King, Jr.

You can abhor Charlie Kirk & his beliefs and unequivocally condemn murder. You can do both. It shouldn’t be hard. It’s what grown up, civilized, tolerant people do.
A bunch of people angry I blamed rising political violence on our extreme polarization.
“No, the problem is THOSE people on the other side!” they yelled.
Not sure they realize they’re proving my point. (Yes, political violence happens on both sides in the US.)
Don’t be this imbecilic, hateful loser. Be better than him. It’s clearly not that hard.
All you need is a functioning brain and a modicum of moral clarity. He has neither.
That's my experience as well. Every one of my Democratic friends is in a state of shock and dismay. The dominant response across the political spectrum is the same. We can't let the worst voices define how we respond to this moment. They are the fringe. Treat them like it.
I wrote this article, based on this
quote, 17 years ago. It remains incredibly true.
"We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break the bonds of affection."
