There’s a sort of spiritual connection between two wildly multicultural cities that have, within the last decade, rallied around loveable basketball teams that brought people together in a way other sports couldn’t (Jays did this too).
Beyond that, was a fun, iconic run.
For 1. A lot of us grew up in NY or were born in NY. For 2. OG (a former raptors player who WON our only championship is on the Knicks. For 3. A lot of us have family there.
- We root for/hold dear our players from the 2019 Finals run, in this case OG. Last year we were cheering for Siakam.
- Knicks were never “rivals” to us like the Yankees. Sixers are the franchise we hate.
- I don’t know, seeing a team break a 53-year drought is amazing, no?
Jamaicans, Old Raptors players, seeing a passionate fanbase thats only known misery and heartbreak finally be rewarded for their loyalty. Whats not to love?
