You shouldn’t seek to build an entire ministry that is birthed out of your own pain, hurt and trauma. Get healed first. Ministry should be built on the foundation of a love for Christ and neighbor. Otherwise it isn’t Gospel ministry, call it something else.

Henri Nouwen says we need two ministries:

1) A ministry of presence
2) A ministry of absence

We must learn to be present w/people & also learn the act of “creative withdrawal” (being absent).

Sabbath keeping is a means of cultivating absence for the sake of loving presence.
