The Sierra Club, America’s oldest and most influential environmental organization, has launched an effort to expand its presence in diverse, working-class South San Diego County. It hasn’t been easy.

I stand with our region’s climate advocates and youth leaders to demand what’s long overdue: polluters paying their fair share. If you profit from environmental damage, you should be responsible for the cost of repair.
Today, the @nytimes covered the sewage crisis in the Tijuana River Valley. The entire country is watching, and we need our local government to step up and offer solutions!
Grateful to @skarlamangla for the chance to speak about the public health impacts of this disaster.
In the dead of night, House Republicans ok'd a measure that would sell off hundreds of thousands of acres of public lands that belong to all Americans. It's a giveaway to corporate polluters and threatens our clean air and water, local economies, and more. https://t.co/iFFOkIwxzq
Lower bills, cleaner energy! 💡⚡ Gloria Daniels in South Carolina cut her energy costs by upgrading to a heat pump and solar panels—made affordable through a grant from the Sustainability Institute and federal programs from the Inflation Reduction Act.
State and federal programs that help people make their homes more efficient and healthier are a win-win and should be protected!

I appreciate @sierraclubsd for convening a forum for District 1 residents who are committed to the preservation of our environment. Together, we can pursue actionable climate goals.
The Alaskan Arctic is home to some of the last truly wild places in the U.S., not spoils for Big Oil CEOs. We must protect our public lands as Trump seeks to turn them in the world’s largest gas station.

Barely a week into the new year, and fire season is here. This is not normal.
Such fires were once highly unusual so early in the year. However, the effects of fossil fuel-driven climate change, from higher global temperatures to increased drought conditions, have increased the likelihood of extreme weather events and raised the risk of unnaturally large and more dangerous fires across the country.
We cannot be passive. We cannot elevate misinformation about what is needed to confront the worsening crisis. Leaders must take the action necessary to direct aid and support to the communities affected by these events, and fund and support the home hardening efforts that make our communities resilient to fire.
