“Feminism is too extreme now.”
You know what’s extreme?
– Women being killed by their partners every day.
– Girls being denied education.
– Victims being blamed for what they wore.
Feminism is a response, not the problem.
Sometimes sexual assault victims lie to themselves about what happened because then you don’t have to deal with the weight of that realization and what can come from it.
You don't prevent sexual assault by teaching women 300 ways to avoid men.
You prevent it by teaching men one thing: Do not touch people without consent.
I say this as a boy mom.
Don’t like what I have to say.
Deuces ✌🏼
one of the hardest things about living with sexual trauma is being re-traumatized every time there’s a heavily publicized case in the news. watching people litigate and demonize other victims. makes you wonder what the point of any of it is, if it’s even worth speaking up at all.
today, my heart is with jane doe, every jane doe, every named survivor, every girl, woman, femme who was not protected as they should've been. my heart is here in this poem. my heart is with you.
“Protect your daughters.”
NO.
Raise sons who intervene.
Raise sons who understand consent.
Raise sons who DO NOT protect their friends when their friends harm women.
it’s “not all men” but then it’s 7 that raped a woman for 7 hours
it’s “not all men” but then it’s 50 men in one gc that all knew about the assault and never exposed it
it’s “not all men” but then it’s the men in power that decided an essay was enough punishment for this brutal act of violence.
it’s “not all men” but it’s every single man that protects eachother when any of the take a woman’s body for their own pleasure.
when will u admit it’s all MEN
thinking today of Chanel Miller, the artist and writer who was the victim of sexual assault by Brock Turner at Stanford in 2015. i revisit her victim impact statement often. and i wish we could say things have changed in the 10 years since her assault
“Protect your daughters.”
