Saddened to hear of the passing of Prof. Dimitri Bertsekas. His research on dynamic programming, distributed optimization, and RL is the theoretical ground on which generations of researchers have built. Was uploading preprints weeks before his death. Irreplaceable. RIP.
“The fact that they are trying to use this to make a story just shows how desperate they are,” says Adam Hamawy (@HamawyForNJ) in response to allegations that he was associated with Omar Abdel-Rahman, an Egyptian cleric convicted in 1995 for a plot to bomb several New York landmarks. “I was in a last-minute carpool [with Abdel-Rahman] and was asked to testify about the events that happened after that ride,” says Hamawy. “I went and testified in 15 or 20 minutes in a trial that took weeks on end.”
Dr. Adam Hamawy is a former Army combat surgeon who saved lives overseas, including the life of my colleague, Senator Tammy Duckworth. His record of selfless service is exactly what we need fighting for NJ-12 in Congress. I look forward to working with @HamawyForNJ to invest our money into healthcare, not funding reckless wars abroad. (2/6)
Congratulations to Dr. Adam Hamawy on his landslide victory tonight in the New Jersey 12th district Democratic primary.
Dr. Hamawy will be a strong progressive voice in the House and, as a physician, he understands our healthcare system is broken and we need Medicare for All.
Bezalel Smotrich should be sanctioned by American political and Jewish communal leaders - not marching alongside them in the streets of New York City.
Smotrich:
❌ is the architect of the Israeli government’s policies to ultimately annex the West Bank.
❌ said that “it may be just and moral” to starve 2 million Gaza residents, but "no one in the world would let us."
❌ is a supporter of "greater Israel" - believing that Israel should not only annex the West Bank, but go beyond into other nations like Jordan.
❌ believes Palestinians aren't real
❌ is a settler in the West Bank https://t.co/4O11WfL4j0
3 Muslims killed at a mosque in San Diego. Trump: "It's a terrible situation." Indiana's Lt. Gov.: "I hate Islam. It's a demonic death cult." One is the President. The other is a sitting statewide official. And the country barely flinched.
This admission below is even more scandalous from Jewish Insider. The reporter of this psychotic article now acknowledges he knew about the government document that described a 1994 visit by a U.S. envoy under President Bill Clinton to a BIF office in Sudan who “praised BIF and its efforts to provide humanitarian relief.”
Yet he left that out (linking to a giant court document doesn't count) so that he could leave the impression that Adam Hamawy is somehow linked to Al Qaeda. To have that information in your possession but not include it in the article is deliberate and malicious.
He left it out for one obvious reason, because any reader would conclude, oh, if a White House envoy did not know this organization was used then, or would be used later, as a front for Al Qaeda, then of course a doctor who volunteered fresh out of medical school for a few weeks obviously would not know either. And then you have no story. Including this exculpatory information undercuts the entire piece, which is why it deserves not just an update but a retraction.
If anyone needed more proof that this was never about illegal immigration; it has always been about anti-immigration. If you are not an immigrant, you have no idea what this will do to a family. 👇🏽

Readers offered questions and pushback about my investigation into sexual assaults against Palestinians by Israelis. So here are our answers:

The @UArkansas Board of Trustees unanimously voted to terminate a tenured professor for comments on Israel & Iran. Academic freedom is a fiction. Academia is toxic. https://t.co/yRN6pa5V8X
This is the state of our "democracy". People with deep pockets and hidden agendas manipulating public opinion without ever disclosing their identities. This is NOT democracy. 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽
New FEC filing from Article One PAC, which has spent $200k on pro-Rebecca Bennett ads, shows that the group is raising money from “Article One Action Fund” (so, a dead end) and “Servant-Leader Fund,” an offshoot of With Honor Fund that’s also supporting Shanel Robinson in NJ-12
The normalization of anti-Muslim hate in this country is mind-boggling. One can say the most vile things about people like me and face zero consequences. Try that with any other group (please don't; I don't like bigots) and watch what rightfully follows.👇🏽
Sharia offers three choices to non-Muslims: convert, submit, or die.
This totalitarian political ideology is intent on destroying our country from within and absolutely cannot be allowed to operate in America.
Either assimilate to our culture or go home!
Go home, @RepKeithSelf? We are home and we've always been here.
African Muslims in bondage helped build this country. Muslim soldiers fought for this country during the American Revolution, the Civil War, World War II, and beyond. Muslim lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs, teachers, faith leaders, activists and others contribute to this country every day. And Muslim athletes have represented this country at the Olympics. Or did you forget @MuhammadAli already?
Your real problem isn't with Islam, Congressman. Your real problem is with the First Amendment of the Constitution. But it's not going anywhere. And neither are American Muslims, God willing.
You can disagree with @RamiElghandour all you want, but cancelling him for this message is un-American, ironic, and a disgrace to @RutgersNB. Can those celebrating his cancellation explain to me what part of this speech you object to?
Thank you @RamiElghandour for recording it.
Rutgers Engineering class of 2026, here’s your speech!
The speech is just as I had written it before Rutgers rescinded my invitation over my advocacy for Palestinian human rights and freedom. Violating the principles of American democracy in the process.
Given the events of the past week, I added an introduction and reflection bookending the speech. You can find the original, unaltered convocation address — the one Rutgers was so afraid of you hearing from: 2:20 to 25:24.
Hope you enjoy it and more importantly that you get something from it.
Like i said, we're counting on you.
p.s. The two minute introduction I mentioned is here. The link to the full speech is in the first comment.
p.p.s. Sharing some context in the replies in support of the things I shared in the introduction and reflections. If there’s one value to all of this, it’s the education and community it will build.
It's such an honor to have the endorsement of @BernieSanders.
We've lived in a rigged system for far too long.
Whether it be Medicare for All, taxing the rich, free public college, and much more -- Bernie and I will fight to win actual results for working people.
