A SpaceX propulsion engineer brought his elderly father to watch a Falcon 9 launch at Cape Canaveral. His father had been a mechanic his entire life. He had never been to a rocket launch. He didn't understand orbital mechanics or payload deployment. He understood engines.
The engineer had worked on the Merlin engine for 4 years. The Merlin powers the Falcon 9. Every component his team designed was about to fire for 162 seconds and either deliver a satellite to orbit or explode.
The father stood in the viewing area and watched the countdown. When the engines ignited and the rocket lifted off the pad, the sound hit them 6 seconds later. The ground shook. The father grabbed his son's arm. Not from fear. From recognition. He knew engines. He had spent 45 years listening to them. This engine was different from anything he had heard in his life.
The father didn't speak for the entire ascent. When the first stage separated and the booster began its descent back to the landing pad, the father started crying. The mechanic who had spent 45 years under cars and trucks watched a rocket engine fire in reverse to land itself upright on a pad from the edge of space.
He turned to his son and said "you built that?"
The engineer said it was the single greatest moment of his career. Not the launch. Not the landing. The question. His father, a man who understood engines better than anyone he knew, looking at the most advanced engine ever built and asking his son if he built it.
Elon's vision of Mars is abstract to most people. But the moment a mechanic's son brought his father to watch the engine he built change the world is the moment the mission becomes human. It's not about Mars. It's about a father who finally understood what his son had been doing all those years.
Right before the Cybercab launch event started, two guys from the @teslasi came up to me and introduced themselves.
One was @pduan, the legend who brought us the "raw photon count" tech that allows FSD to see so much more than what is visible in the image. The other was the guy who called me 6 years ago when Tesla was about to send FSD Beta 1 to my car (best phone call of my life).
They have worked at Tesla for nine years and twelve years respectively, pouring their blood sweat and tears into making what we experienced tonight a reality. Believe me, it was not as easy as they make it look.
These guys are heroes to me, and I told them that. They worked for years and years on something that everyone thought was impossible, but has now changed our lives and will change and save countless more lives in the future. They've given a gift to the world that the world hasn't fully yet wrapped their head around or appreciated.
Look at the recent story where a toddler fell down in the middle of a crosswalk, and a Waymo stopped 13 feet away. By all accounts that toddler may be alive today only because it was a Waymo approaching and not a distracted teenager on their phone. But did the parent appreciate their child's life being protected? No, they actually complained to the city, complained to the state, complained to the federal government, complained to the media. They complained that their child *wasn't* run over, and this was a news story. But if a human had run their child over, the sad thing is it wouldn't even be a news story. It would just be Thursday. It would blend into the abyss of the tens of thousands of Americans and millions of humans who lose their lives in car crashes every year.
I can't imagine the persistence, courage, and brilliance it took to dedicate a decade of your life to such a thankless task, where you've done something truly beautiful for the world but most are afraid of the technology, trying to stop it to enrich themselves, or simply too stupid to understand it. But they did it anyway, and all of us get to enjoy the convenience and safety that results.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Tesla team. Thank you to the AI team that trained the models, thank you to the drivers that evaluated them. Thank you to the Charging team building out the charging network for these Robotaxis. Thank you to the manufacturing team that pioneered new technologies that will bring these low cost product to the masses.
We've come so far, but this is just the beginning. One day pure vision end to end self-driving won't be a secret little niche technology. It will be as ubiquitous as the iPhone or the internet. When that day comes, many will sing the praises of the brave men and women who built this future out of nothing but a vision and their own talents.
But until then, know that there are people out there who see the beautiful thing you've done. That all the late nights and stressful days added up to something that's changed the way we live. You are all legends in our eyes, and this weekend is dedicated to you. Thank you ❤️
The degeneration of Nature, Science, NEJM, and Scientific American into woke propaganda dispensers (and their refusal to publish normie, centrist, common-sense responses) is a scientific scandal.
Met a German founder this week and asked him if all the stories one reads about the challenges of startups in Germany are exaggerated. "No, they're understated." Proceeded to describe spending a full day having a 90-page investment contract read to him (mandatory under German law; § 13 BeurkG) by a notary that then charged €30,000. That was for his first company. His second company, needless to say, was not incorporated in Germany.
Biden's pardon of Fauci is unconstitutionally vague, covers 10 years of potential crimes, and was signed by autopen without Biden's direct authorization. You can't pardon someone for crimes never specified. This should be challenged in court.

The sun was free. They sold you SPF 50 and a vitamin D deficiency.
Sleep was free. They sold you an app, a pill, and a wearable that tells you your sleep was bad.
Walking was free. They sold you a treadmill, a fitness tracker, and a £180 pair of trainers.
Fasting was free. They sold you meal replacement shakes and the anxiety that skipping breakfast would wreck your metabolism.
Cold water was free. They sold you a £3,000 plunge barrel and a podcast episode about it.
Silence was free. They sold you a meditation app with a premium tier.
Animal fat was cheap. They sold you seed oils, then supplements to replace what the animal fat contained.
Tallow was cheap. They sold you a seventeen-step skincare routine and a clinical trial proving your face needs ceramides.
Meat was cheap. They are currently selling you the idea that you shouldn't eat it.
The 20th century removed access to everything the body needs to function.
The 21st century is selling it back, one subscription at a time.
Your great-grandmother had none of the products.
She had all of the things.
Gofundme force stopped my donation page (for weeks) for the carnivore/keto study without notifying me. And then put a little note that strongly suggests that the whole thing is a scam and directs people to other nonprofits. @gofundme
Richard Feynman’s savage takedown of pseudo-science still burns in 2026:
“Social science is an example of a science which is not a science. They follow the forms… but they don’t get any laws. They haven’t found out anything.”
He goes harder:
Experts who “sit at a typewriter and make up” claims — “organic food is better,” “this diet cures everything” — as if it’s settled science, when no rigorous experiments or checks have been done.
Feynman:
“I know what it means to really know something.
How careful you have to be. How easy it is to fool yourself.
I see how they get their information… and I can’t believe that they know.”
The Nobel physicist calls it straight: most of what passes for “expert” opinion is noise dressed up as knowledge.
In an age drowning in TikTok “science,” influencers, and clickbait studies — Feynman’s 1:52 rant feels more relevant than ever.
Who’s the biggest pseudo-expert that grinds your gears right now?
