In the beautiful setting of the History Museum at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the 2nd Working Group 1 (WG1) meeting of the “Sigma-1 Europe” COST Action brought together WG1 members for a productive day of scientific exchange. 🔬 🚀
The meeting opened with remarks from the Action Chair, Tangui Maurice, and WG1 Leader, Carmen Abate, followed by presentations from Ewa Szymańska (Jagiellonian University Medical College, Kraków, Poland), Giuseppe Felice Mangiatordi(CNR Institute of Crystallography, Bari, Italy), and Andreas Maurer (HZDR, Leipzig, Germany).
Further contributions from Ioannis Sotiropoulos (NCSR “Demokritos”, Athens, Greece), Despoina Gianniou, and Ioanna Mela (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece) highlighted the role of the sigma-1 receptor in diverse biological settings and pathologies.
The discussions, including online participants, were open and forward-looking, generating new ideas for future actions and collaborations 🤝
Warm thanks to Ioannis Trougakos and Konstantinos Palikaras for kindly hosting the meeting in Athens.
