@LOTrolhello @HaeckelGroyper The average weight of a woman is pretty close to obesity and the average way they dress is without anything cute in a 5km radius, I think norms should demand more of both sides really. Also even when single parent adoption is legal nobody does it.

@spqr_sulla They don't "deserve it", people give it to animals because they want to and think it's fun or heartwarming, and these same people typically don't get mad if you eat factory meat. Cases like abusing pets is moreso because it suggests you are mentally disturbed.

@spqr_sulla Just like uprooting patriarchy was, it'd be quite a herculean effort to uproot this fondness, and for what? It leads to higher quality meat and production standards as well as being an inspiration for much culture, and the downside is... meat costs? I think they're fine here.

@spqr_sulla My point in bringing up their fondness was just to say that is a trait of theirs that is unlikely to change, and that this reaction is predicteable knowing their very long standing norms, of course "Europeans like/practice it" is not proof of something being good on its own.

The reason this came to be I'd guess is a case of chestertons fence, in which reducing male authority accidentally removed a guard rail against the negative outcome of intersexually competitive sabotage and purity norms.

If it isn't obvious, the outcome of and logical extreme of this norm is evil, putting a taboo on all forms for being pretty or cute even when modest, or even just being attractive in any way at all, making everyone invomved more neurotic and miserable.
