A new chapter in medical education begins with the establishment of Helen Lepcha Sikkim Government Medical College, the first Government Medical College in Sikkim.

Governor Mr Om Prakash Mathur, in the presence of Chief Minister @PSTamangGolay, unveiled the bust of Helen Lepcha and the college logo at Sokeythang. The college was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister @narendramodi on April 28, 2026.

The first batch of 80 MBBS students received their white coats, marking the beginning of their journey in medicine and service.

NDRF’s 4th Mountaineering Expedition "Shikhar” to Mt Jongsong (7,462 m) was flagged off on 4 September 2026 by the Chief Minister of Sikkim, @PSTamangGolay, in Gangtok.

The 41-member expedition aims to enhance technical skills and endurance through high-altitude exposure and strengthen preparedness for specialised rescue operations in challenging mountain terrain.

Rescue operations are in full swing following the methane gas combustion inside NHPC India Teesta Stage VI tunnel at Samardung in Namchi District.

Governor @ommathurbjp and Chief Minister @PSTamangGolay reviewed the ongoing rescue efforts, directed that the best possible medical care be provided to the injured, and instructed NHPC @nhpcltd
to expedite compensation. The State Government announced an ex gratia of ₹4 lakh for the families of each deceased worker and ₹50,000 for each injured person as immediate financial relief.

Chief Secretary Mr Ravindra Telang later chaired a high-level review meeting, directing all agencies to expedite the identification of the deceased, ensure timely relief and compensation for the affected families, and carry forward the rescue operation with the highest priority in coordination with @NDRFHQ and all concerned agencies.

Chief Minister of Sikkim @PSTamangGolay today launched the Mission: Million Oak Trees by 2047, a landmark initiative to restore native Himalayan oak forests, strengthen water security, conserve biodiversity and enhance climate resilience.

The event also witnessed the inauguration of the Sikkim Forest Training Institute at Bulbuley and the launch of the Connect to Forest toll-free helpline (1926), a significant step towards environmental conservation and sustainable forest management.

The publication of the Draft Electoral Roll under Special Intensive Revision 2026 in Sikkim has been announced by Chief Electoral Officer - Sikkim, Mr Raj Kumar Yadav.

Enumeration Forms were received from 4,33,294 out of 4,71,018 electors in the State. The enumeration rate stands at 91.99%.

Claims & Objections begin on July 5 and continue till August 4, 2026. Electors can verify their details through the Draft Electoral Roll online or by scanning the QR codes provided for quick and convenient access.

Chief Minister of Sikkim @PSTamangGolay today met Chief Minister of West Bengal @SuvenduWB at Nabanna, Kolkata, to discuss matters of inter-state cooperation, connectivity and public welfare.

Key decisions included approval for Suswastha Bhawan Sikkim in Siliguri, enhancement of the Sikkim taxi permit quota in West Bengal from 3,000 to 6,000, and a joint commitment to scientific sediment management of the Teesta River to strengthen regional connectivity.

The 12th International Day of Yoga 2026 was celebrated in Gangtok with enthusiastic participation as yoga practitioners, students, officials and members of the public came together in a shared commitment to health, harmony and well-being.

The first batch of 41 Indian pilgrims undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra was flagged off today from Nathu-La border by Governor of Sikkim, Mr Om Prakash Mathur.

The Yatris have begun their pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.

A herd of 8 rare Mishmi Takins has been filmed in Bakuchen, Tingda Reserve Forest under Pakyong District in East Sikkim, marking the first-ever video record from the area and one of the most significant sightings in the State in over two decades.

A proud moment for conservation and a testament to the rich biodiversity of the Eastern Himalayas.

In just 8 days, 3,14,596 Enumeration Forms have been distributed, covering 66.79% of the State’s 4,71,018 electors.

With the enumeration phase continuing till June 28, BLOs are reaching households across Sikkim to ensure every eligible voter is included in the electoral roll.

MoS for Road Transport and Highways Mr Ajay Tamta @AjayTamtaBJP reviewed key road infrastructure projects in Sikkim along NH 10 and NH 510.

He reviewed the Rhenock–Rongli Road 15.30 km with estimated total cost of ₹595 crore and NH 10 upgradation 25.75 km with estimated total cost of ₹1,018 crore, along with proposed bypass works at Rangpo–Rorathang and Melli–Singtam.

He further reviewed @nhidcl projects including 58 km completed works with investment of ₹1,323 crore and 147 km ongoing works with investment of ₹3,749 crore.

Under @MORTHIndia Road Wing, 117 km completed works with investment of ₹1,202 crore, 50 km ongoing works with ₹439 crore and 58 km upcoming projects with ₹2,575 crore were reviewed.

He also reviewed the @BROindia maintained Gangtok–Sherathang–Nathu La road on NH 310 and directed provision of lay-byes for tourist vehicles and landslide mitigation measures.

The Minister directed faster execution, improved safety standards and timely completion, including Gangtok Bypass Road by November 2026.
