It’s a piton’ one use is by mountain climbers and rock climbers. My uncle was a photographer for National Geographic Magazine and it looks like something he had when my mother and I went to see him after he had been taken to the hospital. I had always wanted to see Mt. Everest and it was beyond description.
@sogoldensolo I believe all lives matter and was greatly disheartened when the riots focused on “people of colour” disregarding those of us who were strangled while at a demonstration in Mississippi and worked with Cesar Chavez on behalf of those from South of the U.S border.
I was raised in a prominent family in Beverly Hills one being owner of several businesses and the other a Screenwriter/Director of a few films mainly in the 1940’s and 50’s. The brought me up never to think of race, creed, colour. I was on the stage with my them when Martin Luther King, Jr gave his “I had a Dream” speech and got the best hug from him. I walked the the bridge in Selma, Alabama and marched in East Los Angeles for rights of all Latinos.
Black Lives Matter seemed to be solely about people of colour. White is a colour.
Like you, I don’t recall the name and I didn’t know the name until I remembered it after seeing your post. It’s embarrassing because I have a Doctoral degree in English/Creative/Art History. Of course, I’m 77 years old now and recovering from a bout with Sepsis but I should remember the name. Oh well.
Emanuel Macron. He’s done an excellent job for the peoplof France probably because he takes care of them and is not consumed by the petty little things Trump is. The others may be concerned about world power and knowledge of what’s going on in the US but I don’t think it would be necessary if Trump and MAGA weren’t vying for to retain control. Thank God for Canada!
Despite 12 years of Catholic education at the very best Grammar and High schools, I was a staunch Agnostic. After getting a Doctoral degree, I decided to go to Law school and help my Country as an Attorney in Washington DC with a firm connected to Government including both Houses of Congress. The corruption caused an enormous amount of stress. After twelve years, I went to visit a friend who retired early to live in Italy - a small off the tourist map but still with beautiful view. A week into my visit I was relaxed, content and very happy.
One afternoon, a waitress asked if I could help some Monks regarding a letter received by the Prior. While visiting, I was walking around the grounds when I smelled a strong floral scent. I had no recollection of anything when the Prior found me in the Chapel saying prayers from a book I bought at the gift store. I had no recollection of any of this and to make a long Conversion story short, I never left the Monastery. I became a Carthusian Choirmonk and ordained a Priest after meeting the requirements given me by the Prior General of the Order. Unfortunately, I had not been debriefed and the certain Government agencies insisted on this regardless of the amount of time that lapsed.
I was hit by a car while crossing a street and have been unable to return to Italy as I developed a rare neurological disease. I wish Fr. Alar all the best but have concerns that he found how much money can be made in religion.
According to Pope Leo there are too many people profiting by writing books that say the same thing in different ways, too many who open stores selling religious goods and find ways to profit by the Catholic faith and other denominations.
I’m pretty certain this doesn’t apply to Fr. Alar but since I’ve returned I’ve become very jaded.

I have split emotions over the innumerable satellites and other space garbage. First, I would like to thank NASA and Elon Musk for the beautiful photos we see thanks to them and the many scientist, engineers, astronomers, astronauts and the ancillary staff who make this possible. But I have a concern about what this is doing to our galaxy and the countless others that may have some form of life whether in the incipient stage like we once were or a far more advanced stage. Perhaps we have been visited and have life from other galaxies. I think it’s time to rid space of 98% of all satellites and other space debris and objects. That provides the opportunity to put less for spying and nuclear weapons and just a little more for scientific exploration and research. I recognise that all countries would have to agree and members who make decisions should consider Switzerland, The Netherlands and the UK as those who would oversee this as in the United States and the other major players cannot be reliable. The US Congress can’t adequately pass a bill for anything that line pockets.
