@LonsdaleKeith When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, Crimea stayed with Ukraine. Voters in Crimea supported Ukrainian independence in a 1991 referendum.

Russia seized and annexed the peninsula in 2014. Most of the world still recognizes Crimea as part of Ukraine.
