They retreat to the house, where the rest of the family still needs convincing that anything has happened. Fortunately (or unfortunately), they have it on tape.

Originally broadcast on UPN in 1998, this is Dean Alioto’s bigger-budget remake of his own 1989 film UFO Abduction, now widely known as The McPherson Tape. Alioto returned with an expanded cast and more elaborate effects, keeping the story anchored to a family’s home-video recording. Both films arrived before The Blair Witch Project.

The uncomfortable part is how much time you spend with everyone inside that house. They argue, question what they’ve seen, and struggle to agree on what to do. Meanwhile, the camera keeps running, and the windows and doorways become increasingly difficult to ignore. It’s an unnerving setting for an alien encounter: a familiar family gathering where nobody can offer much reassurance, let alone a way out.

This copy has been cleaned up, color-corrected, and AI-upscaled from an old, low-resolution VHS capture. Expect a rough picture rather than pristine HD, but don’t let that put you off watching.

Defence Minister, Richard Marles tells Army chief to clear historic Sydney barracks by 19 December - then hides.

Liberal Senator Jess Collins just tore strips off Defence Minister Richard Marles on Peta Credlin’s show, and she didn’t hold back.

Seven days ago, Marles didn’t front the troops himself. He went to Chief of Army Lieutenant General Susan Coyle and issued a verbal eviction notice for Victoria Barracks Sydney.

Deadline - 19 December.

Three months and five days, to pack up and get out.

Everyone connected to the base has been told to leave. Officers were due to be briefed at 9am, civilians and other staff at 10am.

Marles? Nowhere to be seen.

This is the same Richard Marles who in February announced Labor’s fire sale of 67 Defence sites, the biggest dump of military land in Australian history.

They want $1.8 billion after costs.

Victoria Barracks Paddington, the 1840s sandstone HQ of Forces Command, Army Museum of NSW, 13 hectares of heritage listed military history sitting between Oxford Street and Moore Park, is on the chopping block because Labor says it’s “under utilised” and expensive to keep.

Marles has spent months claiming it’s a third empty, costs tens of millions a year, and the staff can just shuffle two kilometres down the road to Defence Plaza, which itself sits half empty after $83 million in upgrades.

Heritage? “Protected by law” he says.

Former Chief of Army Ken Gillespie and serving members say that’s rubbish once it leaves Defence hands. Even some Labor MPs privately and publicly warned him this site is not surplus land.

Labor’s selling off the Army’s presence in the heart of Sydney to paper over budget holes and talk about housing. They won’t even look the people who work there in the eye while they do it.
