There was always moments in these shows where the animation popped off, but like 90% of the time it was budgeted, stilted animation.
But these shows still worked. Why? Because they were stylized. Because the direction was interesting. Invincible has no sauce, man.
They did. This fight moves so similarly to the Conquest fights. The reason why these fights look so much better is because clearly they were given time in the oven to cook. It's not an animator problem, it's a production problem.
Which is a ridiculous comparison because that show is built to be an animation highlight reel but I digress. A better comparison is, like, Black Clover, or One Piece (pre-Wano). Shows that needed to come out weekly on a deadline - THE ANIMATION SUFFERS!
Why does movie animation look so much better than TV animation? Time and direction. Japan has built an industry around getting TV animation out the door as quickly and as polished as possible. Invincible was compared to JJK on here a little while back-
