Phasing out 10 GW of coal power cost the German taxpayers about 700 million EUR in compensation payments. This is the result of our new study on the German Coal Phase-Out Auctions published today in Energy Policy.

Compared to policy alternatives, we consider the compensation payments to be low, which suggests that auctions might be a suitable policy instrument for phasing out unwanted capacity in general. (8/8)

Bedeutet in Summe:
- 1,2 Mrd. Steuergelder gespart,
- Gesamtgasnachfrage um 24 TWh reduziert und
- Gesamtkosten in Höhe von 3,6 Mrd. EUR vermieden und
Sprich eine Win-Win-Situation!

@JMGlachant@jcremer This is also benefitial without an energy price cap ! Suppliers should pay their costumers for reducing their forecasted consumption, because spot prices exceed end consumer prices.
@LionHirth, Axel Ockenfels and myself put this idea forward here:

We (and others) have been analyzing aggregated data on 🇩🇪 gas demand by Trading Hub Europe (THE) https://t.co/h75sjXljKi
But how is this data generated and what does this mean for capturing demand response?
My insights from studing guidelines and two phone calls with THE:
EU fossil fuels have ticked up to cover a drop in nuclear and hydro generation. But wind and solar softened the blow.
