#amreading Autonomous by Annalee Newitz. As founder of @io9, @Annaleen has deep roots in #scifi and #STEM. Both nourish this novel about a soldier and his biobot partner. They hunt a drug pirate responsible for many deaths, but find disturbing truths about indentured servitude.
Not waving; drowning.
In other words, life is like water and sometimes life overwhelms. Sometimes your only option is to let the current carry you for a while, even when you're drowning. It may carry you to shore.
And sometimes the water is not as deep as you fear.

@BonnieC919 @david_mastrine More than fifteen years ago, I had a cat that looked just like this. His name was Tenchi, which means "heaven" in Japanese, or "this side up" in Japanese, depending on the context. Both applied to him. I miss him.
@wilw I know this situation all too well. π
For whatever it's worth, I'm confident you'll nail the speech and help foster positive change. Thank you.
OMG! I'm grateful Border Patrol found this cub before it died. The pet tiger market isn't just illegal in most states, but dangerous for both people and tigers. This must stop! ππ― https://t.co/o0VnROJU5X
Luke Skywalker on trial? Mock trials are a fantastic way to teach kids about the legal system. Since they already understood the issue and cared about the defendant, the kids remained engaged and had fun while learning.π https://t.co/Md6hlDmq1j
@Blakeydead My pet peeve: "could of", "would of", "should of", and their ilk. GRAR! Could have. Would have. Should have. For those who prefer contractions: Could've, would've, should've. Even coulda, woulda, and shoulda are superior to that ilk! Colloquialisms are quaint. Bad grammar is not.
It's easy to blame backstabbers, rotten neighbors, haters, exes, toxic workplaces, and our parents for everything wrong in our lives, #ButWhatIfWeTried looking in the mirror and owning how we've let ourselves down? We can't control others, but we can take charge of ourselves.
@whykristenburns Yay! Do we really need sleep anyway? I mean, look at all we can accomplish by forgoing the silly nightly ritual that paralyzes (literally) an overwhelming majority of the population. Whether it's productive or wasted, this time is ours! (I'll tell myself this until I collapse...)
I'm sick of laying in bed and staring at a dark ceiling. I'm sick of fighting insomnia, so I won't tonight. I'm staying up and doing whatever I please with this time until I'm too exhausted to do anything but sleep. Who else is up? #INSOMNIATRAIN
