JK Rowling just offered to pay for her day in court.

The girl, the only female in the unit, was placed at St Mary's Kenmure in Glasgow alongside 11 boys aged 15-17, all older teenage offenders. She had committed no crime.

When she asked to move to an empty houseblock, the answer was "no."

The case was documented by the Council of Europe's committee for the prevention of torture after an inspection last year.

Rowling took to X: "Who does it hurt if we make every space mixed-sex? This is who it hurts: the most vulnerable, those without power and influence, the invisible people politicians don't bother to consider when chasing likes and photo ops."

She then posted a link to her women's fund and offered to cover legal costs for the girl or anyone acting on her behalf.

A man (Samantha Tempest, here abbreviated to ST) is arguing in court that he belongs in a group for menopausal women. It is pointed out to him that menopause is the cessation of ovulation and that, being a man who never started, let alone ceased, ovulating he does not belong in such a group. He disagrees. This week, Edith Eva Eger passed away at 99.

At 16, she was deported to Auschwitz with her parents. They were murdered upon arrival. Edith, a ballet dancer and gymnast was forced to perform for Josef Mengele.

In her memoir, The Choice, she writes:

“Dance for me,” Mengele ordered.
As he watched, he calmly decided who would live and who would die.

“If I miss a step… it could be me.”

“I dance. I dance. I dance in hell.”

In that moment, she made a decision that stayed with her for life:

“I am free in my mind. He never will be.”

When Allied forces arrived, she was found barely alive in a pile of bodies - saved only because an American soldier noticed her hand move.

After the war, she immigrated to the United States, built a family, and struggled with survivor’s guilt until meeting Viktor Frankl, whose guidance helped her heal.

She went on to become a psychologist influenced by logotherapy and an existentialist approach to therapy.

At 90, she published The Choice, which became an international bestseller. She later wrote The Ballerina of Auschwitz and The Gift.

Anche oggi, mentre il resto del pianeta si fermava per ammirare un ventiquattrenne che riscriveva la storia del tennis, tu hai scelto la coerenza: hai trasmesso "Domenica In" e tutti gli altri tuoi programmi storici a cui sei affezionata.
Diciamocelo: hai un talento raro. E infatti nel novembre 2023, mentre Sinner schiantava Djokovic a Torino e si apprestava a riportare in Italia una Coppa Davis che mancava da quasi mezzo secolo, tu hai preferito tenere il budget al sicuro in cassaforte, convinta che quel ragazzino fosse solo un 'fuoco di paglia'.
E così hai lasciato che un colosso privato si prendesse tutto il pacchetto dei Masters 1000 per i prossimi cinque anni. Meglio investire sulla Nazionale di calcio. Loro sì che sono una certezza. E infatti, da veri "professionisti", si sono garantiti il divano per i Mondiali anche quest'anno.
Una continuità che commuove. Come la tua. Che hai rinunciato a milioni di euro di introiti pubblicitari.

A TRA once asked me how I’d feel if I woke up male tomorrow - wouldn’t I still want to use women’s spaces?

In that moment, I realized that we’re never going to reach them, and that men live in a completely different world than we do.

If I woke up male tomorrow, the last thing I’d do would be insist on access to women’s spaces, because I know how afraid and uncomfortable I’d make everyone there — and every single woman I’ve discussed this with has said the same.

Only a man would intrude upon women in that fashion, bringing his male body into our spaces with no concern for the fear and distress he’s causing. Only men see their wishes and desires as being more important than the comfort and safety of women and girls.

No real woman who found herself in a male body would even think to demand access to women’s spaces, knowing that she was putting other women at risk or making them afraid in the process.
