Why would we think a patient should be a first test case of a new clinical space?
You wouldn't let your mother be the first to test drive a new car design.

“I don’t know” is not an admission of ignorance. It’s an expression of intellectual humility.
“I was wrong” is not a confession of failure. It’s a display of intellectual integrity.
“I don’t understand” is not a sign of stupidity. It’s a catalyst for intellectual curiosity.
Small gestures like these help to build psychological safety and they promote trust. All key components of a high performing team and a learning organization.

Where else do you get an opportunity to make mistakes safely? Simulation isn’t just a bridge between theory and practice - it goes beyond both - enabling learners to truly develop their practice and approach to care, & understand the consequences actions and behaviours can have.
Insecure leaders strive to be the most powerful person in the room. They make others feel weak so they alone can stay strong.
Secure leaders aim to amplify the power of the room. They use their strength to make others stronger.
The best and highest use of power is to share it.
We can start to think of simulation as a ritual - a recurring event, with a prescribed set of actions, that demonstrates and has significant impact on our values and beliefs. This positions sim facilitators and shapers of culture within their organizations #SESAM2022
Simulation provides a safe place to learn from error. It offers conditions to understand that ‘to err is human’ and how to grow from error - is to learn.

‘Learn to fail or fail to learn’
Whilst in the simulation control room, it’s not just about changing the physiological settings of the manikin….
Done well, can influence the learning & emotional climate in the simulation suite - to optimise learning and maintain psychological safety

Debriefing in simulation…..
Video assisted feedback can be a powerful debriefing adjunct
But remember…..needs to be done sensitively and not to jeopardise psychology safety….otherwise you are on the path to the dark side

The self-evident yet under appreciated concept, the MacLeamy Curve. A project becomes more difficult to change the more developed it becomes.
#Design projects should shift efforts forward to impact cost and functionality.
Use #simulation to solve tomorrow's problems, today.
1/7 Eye contact is one of the most underrated #communication tools in general conversations, but it’s importance is amplified by several magnitudes when trying to facilitate group #conversations during #debriefing.
