Why doesn't the media talk about Sudan?
Sudan is bleeding. Sudan's war has set off the world's largest hunger crisis, as the fighting continues to devastate lives and livelihoods.
About 70% of the African Union's $650m budget is funded by foreigners. "You call them colonizers but when they give us money, they're partners," Sudanese billionaire Mo Ibrahim says.
"This is a farce, either you're serious or you forget it," he told former AU boss Moussa Faki
When they created women rep positions, they envisioned women championing for women's rights and bringing forth useful legislation that will promote equity but lo and alas.
Regardless, we are grateful for this one nominated member who is doing a splendid job. Congratulations.
The depth of Macron's tone-deafness and condescension is genuinely staggering.
Here he is in Mayotte, a French overseas territory off the coast of Africa that just suffered an absolutely devastating cyclone, literally shouting at people complaining of their situation that they ought to be "happy to be in France! Because if this wasn't France, I'm telling you, you would be 10,000 times more in deep shit."
This response is almost beyond belief. Imagine you're one of these people, you've lost your home and maybe someone from your family, you live in what's by far the poorest département in France (the poverty rate in Mayotte is an insane 77.3%, https://t.co/FxdDUpiUoc) and the President of the Republic comes to visit only to scream at you that you should be grateful because you'd be "10,000 times more in deep shit" without France. The sheer disconnect is mind-blowing.
Also the fact that he resorts to profanity and angry outbursts while demanding unity and respect from others is particularly ironic. A true leader in this situation would acknowledge the pain and devastation, outline specific plans for recovery, and unite people around a vision for rebuilding. Instead, Macron chooses to berate disaster victims for not being sufficiently grateful...
This is Wednesday. Still no sign of Aoko. Ruto should understand that Aoko will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. For the avoidance of doubt, Ruto is the camel in question.
(with apologies to camels 🐫 everywhere)
