@AlejandroTorr65@Jhavel00@unholycyrusss Artists who are fading chase trends, The Weeknd builds eras. You don’t accidentally become one of the most streamed artists ever with ‘unrecognizable’ music, sustained global listening proves the opposite, his projects are 2-3 years away, and he’s not consistently dropping songs.
@AvatarRoku3000 @Jhavel00@unholycyrusss Calling it disingenuous confuses equity sale with valuation. MJ, Queen, and The Weeknd all reached nine-figure–to–billion valuations because of durable global cash flows. The financing method changed, the economics didn’t.
@AvatarRoku3000 @Jhavel00@unholycyrusss The asset absolutely matters, that’s why only someone with a catalog like The Weeknd’s can raise nine figures this way.
Comparing his access to capital to a random borrower ignores scale, risk, and institutional reality. This is optimization, not desperation.
@AvatarRoku3000 @Jhavel00@unholycyrusss Temporarily redirecting royalties to service asset, backed debt isn’t desperation, it’s leverage.
If he were desperate, he would’ve sold the catalog.
Instead, he kept ownership, took liquidity, and preserved upside. That’s textbook capital strategy.
@AvatarRoku3000 @Jhavel00@unholycyrusss If I own a building worth $1B and take a $750M mortgage plus $250M in equity financing, the building is still worth $1B.
No one ‘paid’ $1B for it, I just unlocked its value.
@AvatarRoku3000 @Jhavel00@unholycyrusss billion-dollar catalog doesn’t mean he has a billion in cash.
It means his catalog is an asset valued at that level.
He didn’t sell it, kept control, got $250M upfront, and still owns the revenue stream. That’s literally a textbook power move.
@Jhavel00@unholycyrusss The Weeknd has 6 studio albums, 1 ep, 1 mixtapes compilation, it’s not his fault he’s not scared of dropping, and speaking of impact, The Weeknd has the biggest male tour of all time, and he’s the only artist next to mj and queen to have a catalog that’s worth a billion $.
@AJI_Lost I had such a weird first listen to Kiss Land, left it out of rotation for some months, it randomly clicked , now it’s definitely top 4 for me, wanderlust was the only track I enjoyed, now it’s one of my least favorites off Kiss Land.
