Complaint Filed Against Illegal Double-Tracking Work in Velsao

GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai, along with GPCC President Amit Patkar, Environmentalist Claude Alvares and others, approached the South Collector in Margao today, alleging illegal double-tracking work in Velsao. NFF Attends National Workshop on Small-Scale Fisheries in West Bengal
West Bengal: The National Fishworkers Forum (NFF) participated in a two-day national workshop on “Aligning India’s National Plan of Action for Small-Scale Fisheries with the Global SSF Process” at Narendrapur, West Bengal. The workshop, organised by the Institute for Motivating Self Employment (IMSE) and East Coast Fish Workers Union (ECFWU), brought together fishworkers’ organisations, trade unions, researchers, and civil society groups. Speaking at the event, NFF General Secretary Olencio Simoes emphasized the urgent need to implement the FAO Voluntary Guidelines for Small-Scale Fisheries (VGSSF), endorsed by India in 2014 but still pending execution. He highlighted challenges like livelihood losses due to climate change, destructive fishing, and unplanned coastal development. The NFF called for inclusive, rights-based policy implementation and expressed readiness to cooperate with the government to safeguard fishers’ livelihoods and rights.
