Today, we’ve heard numerous reports not just from journalists, but also from professionals working in addiction services and strategic roles, who have been profoundly upset or angry about the situation. It’s heartbreaking to hear that some of these individuals have been chastised or embarrassed for showing these emotions. Let us be clear: it is not unprofessional to be angry or upset about these ongoing, needless tragedies. In fact, to suggest otherwise is nothing short of gaslighting and abusive. We must continue to demand better, and that starts with allowing people to feel and express the gravity of what’s happening.

Amnesty International have DENIED one of their representatives clapped and smiled as she stood next to a Labour councillor who called on a crowd to “cut all their throats” - referring to ‘right wing’ protesters.

The charity have claimed their representative ‘did not hear’ the comments- despite standing right next to the man and applauding him.

“The activist in the video has made clear to us that they were distracted and hadn’t heard the speaker’s comments when they applauded generally with the crowd.

The speaker at the event is not affiliated with Amnesty and we strongly oppose violence and any kind of hateful speech.”
